5OSPFBGP memory considerationsBGP4 handles a very large number of routes and therefore requires a substantial amount ofmemory. For example, in a typical configuration with a single BGP4 neighbor, a BGP4 router mayneed to manage as many as 250,000 routes. Many configurations, especially those involving morethan one neighbor may require the router to retain even more routes. The Brocade devices providedynamic memory allocation for BGP4 data, automatically allocating memory when needed tosupport BGP4 neighbors, routes, and route attribute entries. Dynamic memory allocation isperformed automatically by the software and does not require a reload.Common diagnostic scenariosMD5 Authentication is incorrect between two BGP peers when a BGP session remains connected.Because MD5 authentication occurs at the TCP layer, the debug ip bgp command will not help inthis situation. To determine the exact error, issue the debug ip tcp transactions command.OSPFThe Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol uses link state advertisements (LSAs) to updateneighboring routers about interfaces and information on those interfaces. OSPF routers maintainidentical databases that describe their area topology, helping any individual router to determine theshortest path between itself and any neighboring router.OSPF show commandsThis section describes the show commands that display OSPF information.show ip ospfSyntax: show ip ospfThis command displays the current OSPF Router Advertisement configuration. The bold text in thefollowing example is displayed for an OSPF Router Advertisement configuration.Brocade# show ip ospfOSPF Version Version 2Router Id 10.10.10.10ASBR StatusNoABR Status No (0)Redistribute Ext Routes fromExternal LSA Counter 5External LSA Checksum Sum 0002460eOriginate New LSA Counter 5Rx New LSA Counter 8External LSA Limit 14447047Database Overflow Interval 0Database Overflow State : NOT OVERFLOWEDRFC 1583 Compatibility : EnabledOriginating router-LSAs with maximum metricCondition: Always Current State: ActiveLink Type: PTP STUB TRANSIT130 Brocade MLX Series and Brocade NetIron XMR Diagnostic Guide53-1002426-02
