BGP 5Brocade(config)# no router bgprouter bgp mode now disabled. All bgp configuration data will be lost when writingto flash? When you test a BGP4 configuration, and are likely to disable and re-enable the protocol, you mightwant to make a backup of the startup configuration file that contains the BGP4 configurationinformation. If you remove the configuration information by saving the configuration after youdisable the protocol, you can then restore the configuration by copying the backup to the flashmemory. To disable BGP4 without losing the BGP4 configuration information, remove the local AS (forexample, by entering the no local-as command). In this case, BGP4 retains the otherconfiguration information but is not operational until you again set the local AS.Forwarding disruptions and port flappingThe BGP Graceful Restart feature supports high-availability routing. With this feature enabled, disruptions in forwarding are minimized and route flapping diminished to provide continuousservice during times when a router experiences a restart. For more information about BGP GracefulRestart, refer to the Brocade MLX Series and NetIron Family Configuration Guide.Performance degrades during restartsBGP Graceful Restart also helps minimize performance degradation during restarts. For moreinformation about BGP Graceful Restart, refer to the Brocade MLX Series and NetIron FamilyConfiguration Guide.Reducing the complexity of BGP configurationsThe following information can help to simplify your BGP configurations.ConfederationsA confederation is a BGP4 Autonomous System (AS) that has been subdivided into multiple, smaller autonomous systems. Subdividing an autonomous system into smaller autonomoussystems simplifies administration and reduces BGP-related traffic, thus reducing the complexity ofthe Interior Border Gateway Protocol (IBGP) mesh among the BGP routers in the AS.Router reflectionAnother way to reduce the complexity of an IBGP mesh is to use route reflection. However, if youwant to run different Interior Gateway Protocols (IGPs) within an AS, configure a confederation. Youcan run a separate IGP within each sub-AS.For more information on how to configure these features, refer to the Brocade MLX Series andNetIron Family Configuration Guide.Brocade MLX Series and Brocade NetIron XMR Diagnostic Guide 12953-1002426-02
