It has to bedistinguished between synchronous-and hysteresis clutchesaccording to the function principlein use.The synchronous clutchSynchronous clutches transmittorques due to magnetic force,which is produced through periodicallyarranged, opposite lyingpermanent magnets. According tothe size of the clutch torques upto 1000 Nm can be transmitted.When exceeding the rated torquelevel the magnetic force breaksoff, the clutch slips through andnow can only transmit a minorrest torque. The synchronousclutch owes its name to its nature,only able to transmit torque if asynchronous action of the connectingsystem is granted.Permanent MagnetsThe hysteresis clutchAt this type of clutch, one half of theclutch is coated with a hysteresislining instead with a permanent magnet.This hysteresis material actssimilar according to the permanentmagnet but through the hysteresislining poles can be changed with anextrem low power demand. In casethe rated torque level of the clutchexceeds, the clutch begins to slipthrough.
