TheWhite Golf Course was fairly straight forward off the tee, yet the approach and greenside bunker shots provedto be trying. Players quickly learned that even courses designed in the 1950’s can still show their teeth today.Nevertheless, there were many great scores posted by all competitors over the weekend. In the Boys 16-19 Division, 13 year old sensation Jim Liu from Smithtown, NY captured first place honors witha phenomenal two-day total of 136 finishing at 8-under-par. Liu was able to fend off his competitors, MichaelMiller of Brewster, NY who shot 5-under-par and Dillon Corbo of Montville, NJ who shot 2-under-par with ablistering nine-hole score of 31, whom gave steady chase throughout Sunday’s final-round. Our winner, JimLiu, had this to say about his victory:“I came into the weekend trying to play my best, and luckily a couple of unexpected putts dropped to helpcounter a few errant tee shots. Overall, I am pleased with myself because I fulfilled all my goals for theweekend.”Sunday started off neck and neck in the Boys 13-15 Division, but with a round of 70, eventual championXander McDonald-Smith from Rockaway Park, NY was able to slip past the competition. McDonald-Smithfinished the event with a total score of 2-under-par. Runner-up Brian Tohir of New Canaan, CT shot even parto take second. Lastly, third place finishers Max Christiana of Mt. Kisco, NY and Andrew Gai of Westport, CTfinished at 145. Our winner, Xander McDonald-Smith had these words about the course:“The greens were fast and undulating which made placing drives essential for good entry positions into thegreens.”The Boys 12 and Under Division could not be decided in regulation. Therefore, Michael Davis of NewtownSquare, PA and Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, CT had to settle things on an extra hole. Davis recorded a par

on the first playoff hole, and edged out Humphrey to claim the title. Both competitors finished the event at 150for two days, and Will Bernstein from Bronx, NY rounded out the top three with a two-day total of 163.Harin Lee of Bayside, NY did not dig herself in a hole after round one, instead she holed out. On the eighthhole, which measured 141 yards in length, Lee took an eight-iron and put her ball in the cup. It was Lee’s firstcareer hole-in-one and this is what she had to say:“I was so excited I couldn’t even concentrate on the last hole of the day!”Lee not only made a hole-in-one, but also won the event with a 148 total. Taking second place honors withrounds of 75 and 75 was Esther Park of Demarest, NJ, and taking third was Nicole Morales of South Salem, NYwith a two-day total of 151.Although winning the title was the main concern for the majority of the field, Sunday’s buzz word was “BeltBuckle”. This year the IJGT has introduced a new concept to its final round scoring, and the results have beenwonderful. Players, regardless of where they stand in relation to the field, have the chance to go home with thelow final round belt buckle. This week’s winners were: Jim Liu, Max Cohen, Theo Humphrey, Esther Park, and Nicole Morales. Congratulations to all the IJGT winners.# IJGT #Title Sponsors include: TaylorMade, Adidas, GolfWorld, and the Hank Haney International Junior GolfAcademy. The IJGT was founded in 1995 for junior golfers ages 11-19. Its purpose is to provide aspiring collegiateplayers the opportunity to compete in a series of events against the highest quality U.S. and internationalcompetition. This year’s schedule features almost 70 events at some of the finest courses in the U. S. as well as tournamentsin Canada and Scotland.Nearly 2000 junior golfers compete on the IJGT representing 45 states and over 30 countries.
