There was a lot of excitement surrounding the first round ofthe <strong>IJGT</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>La</strong> <strong>Costa</strong>. The competitors enjoyed a beautiful sunny day of competition, a player and parentbarbeque and finally a trip over to the TaylorMade facility to listen to former USC golf coach Ted Gleasonspeak about the college recruiting process. On Sunday, the wind and rains came making the South Course playextremely difficult.week:The Boys 16-19 Division title was up for grabs coming into the final roundwith 13 players within 3-strokes of the lead. The final 18 holes could notdetermine a winner after Trevor Simsby of <strong>La</strong> <strong>Costa</strong>, CA, McCoy Willey ofSt. George, UT, and Ben Itterman from Carlsbad, CA all finishing <strong>at</strong> 4-overpar148. On the first playoff hole, all players hit beautiful drives and eachplayer had a look <strong>at</strong> birdie. After w<strong>at</strong>ching Willey and Simsby just misstheir birdie opportunity, Itterman holed his birdie putt from 8-ft to take thetitle. After the round Itterman talked about how important his driver was this“Coming into this week I hadn’t been hitting my driver well <strong>at</strong> all. But I was able to fix it this weekend and itwas a big factor in this win.”In the Boys 13-15 Division Gunner Kirschenmann of Bakerfield, CA heldoff the field to take home the title. Kirschenmann followed up his first round77 with a final round 76 for a 1-stroke victory. Coming in just behindKirschenmann was Dalton Stanger of Orem, UT. Stanger posted back-tobackrounds of 77 leaving him with a two-day total 154. Finishing in a tie forthird place were Thomas Arand from Mcminnville, OR and Ryan Burgess ofRancho Santa Fe, CA who shot a two-day total of 157. Kirschenmann hadthis to say about his round today:“I chipped in for Birdie on hole No. 2, my 11 th hole of the day, and th<strong>at</strong> gave me a lot of momentum on the restof the back 9.”In the Boys 12 & Under Division a sudden de<strong>at</strong>h playoff was needed todecide a winner. Tim Graham of Hillsboro, OR came from 6-strokes behindto c<strong>at</strong>ch first round leader Nicklaus Rivera of Bakersfield, CA and send it toextra holes. On the first playoff hole Graham sank a 12-ft. putt th<strong>at</strong> gave himthe win. Rivera posted rounds of 82 and 84 to finish in second place, and


ounding out the top three was JJ Qualkenbush of <strong>La</strong> Quinta, CA with a two-day total of 169.This weekend Elizabeth Doty of Palos Verdes Est<strong>at</strong>es, CA came awayvictorious in the Girls 19 & Under Division. Doty posted a solid first roundeven-par 72, and followed it up with a final round 84 giving her a two-strokevictory. Coming in second place from Hacienda Heights, CA was MaykoChwen Wang with a two-day total of 158. Anna DePalma of San Clemente,CA shot rounds of 77 and 86, which placed her solidly in third place.
