Decommissioning and rehabilitationThis section should present general strategies and methods for decommissioning andrehabilitation <strong>of</strong> the environment disturbed by the project.5. Environmental values and management <strong>of</strong>impactsThe objectives <strong>of</strong> the following subsections are to:• describe the existing environmental values <strong>of</strong> the area that may be affected by theproject, using background information and/or new studies to support statements(include reference to all definitions <strong>of</strong> environmental values set out in relevantlegislation, policies and plans)• describe the potential adverse and beneficial impacts <strong>of</strong> the project on the identifiedenvironmental values and the measures taken to avoid, minimise and/or mitigatethose impacts• describe any cumulative impacts on environmental values caused by the project,either in isolation or in combination with other known existing or planned projects• present objectives, standards and measurable indicators that protect the identifiedenvironmental values• detail the environmental protection and mitigation measures incorporated in theplanning, construction, rehabilitation, commissioning, operation anddecommissioning <strong>of</strong> all facets <strong>of</strong> the project• examine viable alternative strategies for managing impacts (present and comparethese alternatives in view <strong>of</strong> the stated objectives and standards to be achieved)• discuss the available techniques to control and manage impacts in relation to thenominated objectives.Measures should prevent, or where prevention is not possible, minimise environmentalharm and maximise environmental benefits <strong>of</strong> the project.
