Questions and AnswersABOUT NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONNew Student Orientation (NSO)OverviewYour college experience at <strong>Elizabeth</strong><strong>City</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> begins with New StudentOrientation (NSO). All new students are requiredto attend NSO. The two day orientation willprepare you for the transition to collegiate lifeand will enhance your success during yourfirst year of college. During orientation youwill plan your academic schedule, registerfor classes, attend meetings and becomeacquainted with ECSU students, staff andfaculty.Parents/guardians, are invited to participatein special sessions designed to help youbecome familiar with the university and to aidin your son’s and/or daughter’s transition tocollege life.NSO Dates1 st Session: June 26-27, 20142 nd Session: July 17-18, 20143 rd Session: August 14-15, 2014Will I Need toTake Placement Test (s)?Accuplacer computer-based math, reading,and writing essay are required for most students.Test scores will assist your advisor withdetermining your appropriate math and Englishcourses for you. Placement testing will be held at8:00 am on the first day of your scheduled NSO.When Should I Arrive andCan I Stay on Campus?If you are staying on campus, arrive on DayOne between 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. where you can godirectly to your assigned residence hall. Femalestudents should report to <strong>University</strong> Towers andmale students report to Mitchell Lewis.All students (Boarding and Non-Boarding)should report to your testing location forplacement testing and registration by 7:50 a.m.Parents should report to the Mickey L. BurnimFine Arts Center for Orientation Registration by7:50 a.m.Whom Do I Contact RegardingDisability Services?Students requiring assistance or DisabilityServices during New Student Orientation andthe academic year due to physical,psychological and/or learning disabilities shouldregister with Mrs. Felecia Brown, Counseling &Testing Center, 500 Griffin Hall, (252) 335-3642or (252) 335-3273.To receive appropriate accommodationsduring Orientation, please contact us at least tenbusiness days prior to your scheduled orientationsession. We are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. to assist you.What Should I Bring?If you are staying on campus, bring yourown pillow, bed linens, towels, alarm clock, andother important personal articles. The residencehalls are air conditioned. Casual clothing will beappropriate for all planned activities.When Will the Program End?Your orientation program will end thesecond day of each orientation after lunch witha check-out time of 3:00 p.m. from the residencehalls.Is There a Fee for Orientation?Yes, there is a $106 fee for New StudentOrientation for students. The Parent Orientationprogram is free for interested parents andguardians. Only students will receiveovernight housing. Your Orientation fee maybe paid by Master and Visa Credit/Debit Cardat (252) 335-3207 or by check/money orderpayable to <strong>Elizabeth</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> andreference New Student Orientation in memoline.
