Raport3.2 GROUND WATERSGroundwater reserves in Kosovo are not researched enough. Groundwaters in Kosovo arelocated in rocks of different formations, from Paleozoic to Quaternary. These reservesare important for drinking water supply needs, industry, agriculture etc. Currently theuse of groundwater in Kosovo is made mainly through wells and sources. The followingtable shows data on groundwater accumulation in the Drini i Bardhe river basinTable 12: Ground water accumulations, surface, volume and capacity in the area of Drini i Bardhe river basin.Nr.GroundwaterBasin Useable volumeEstimated capacityaccumulation(km 2 )(m 3 )m 3 /sec Total (m 3 )12345678910IstogVrellëDrini i BardhëLubizhdëPejëDeçanLloqanKrk BunarKorishëFusha e Therandës762890423001443981185012x10 614x10 614x10 645x10 637,5x10 633x10 612x10 610x10 63,6x10 675x10 6 2,80,6003,234,2(150)4,0(150)3,5(150)1,2(150)1,60,38289x10 619x10 6102x10 655x10 652x10 645x10 615x10 650x10 612x10 663x10 6Total 998 271x10 6 511x10 6The complex geological and geo-tectonical conditions have influenced the way of thecreation, expansion, and movement of groundwater resources to be different in theterritory of Kosovo, due to the presence of water-non-penetrable rocks. The territory ofKosovo, has a complex geological construction and it is characterised with terrains withgranular and inter-granular porous aquifers (Neogene’s and Pliocene’s alluviums andsediments); aquifers with rift porosity, carstic aquifers (limestone, marble) as well aswith insulator and terrains, flysch, schist 19 .The alluvium aquifers of gravel and sand are prevalent in all water flows. Their dimensionscorrespond to the size of the river alluviums and cover the area of 2650 km2 or 24.3% ofthe Kosovo territory. A larger expansion have the alluviums of: Drini i Bardhe, Sitnica,Morava e Binçës, Lumëbardhi i Pejes, Lumëbardhi i Prizrenit, Lumëbardhit i Decanit,Drenica, Klina, etc.Alluvium of Sitnica-is represented by sand and gravel with inter-granular porositythickness of 3-20 m and a flow of 3-15 l/sec.Alluvium of the Drini i Bardhe - has a thickness of 10-35 m, with thickness of waterhorizon 3-15 m and water flow of 50-20 l/sec. Groundwater level is at depth of 2.5-15.5 mAlluvium of The Morava e Binçës - has a thickness of 3-10 m, with a flow of up to8.0 l/sec and the depth of the water level up to 2.0 m.Alluvium of Llapi - thickness of up to 10 m, water level depth of 2-9 m and flow 3-10l/sec19 Kosovo hydro-geologic construction, Vilimirovic J,40120 © Agjencia e Kosoves per Mbrojtjen e Mjedisit
