AYC Eastern Shore Fall Cruise and Cruiseto the Chestertown Historic House Tour- -September 24 to October 1Fall on Maryland’s Eastern Shore is a beautiful time for scenery,wildlife viewing, hiking, water sports, and just relaxing. This activecruise takes you to two member's homes with a stop in St. Michaelsand then links up with the cruise up the Chester River to the Historic Homes Tour inChestertown. Because of the length of time involved, the cruise has been designed toallow cruisers to join and depart as their schedule permits. In order to finalize plans,we need to get an indication of participation and which activities are of interest. Come ashore when you want, swim in theheated pool, play croquet, or explore by dingy. Dinner is ashorewith BYO cocktails beginning about 5:30pm. Soft drinks, ice andbeer will be available. The Whitcombs will provide honey bakedham and turkey. Cruisers should bring a side dish or dessert toshare with everyone.Sunday, September 25—Wye East RiverIn the morning, come ashore about 9:00am for coffee and sharedpotluck breakfast. Lunch is on your own. Activities includehiking at Pickering Creek Audubon Center (PCAC) or the WyeIsland Natural Resources Area (NRMA). Miles of trails are available at PCAC through oldgrowth forests, meadows and wetlands. Wildlife can be viewed from observation decksand blinds. Transportation by van to PCAC will be provided.Another option is hiking at the Wye Island NRMA. The island consists of 2,450 acres of landmanaged for recreation and resource protection. There are 12 miles of beautiful trails all ofwhich are well posted (maps will be provided). Access to the island is at the dock at thehead of Dividing Creek using the event tender, dingy or kayak. Kayaks will be available foryour use on Sunday.Dinner on Sunday is ashore at the Whitcomb’s. BYO cocktails are at 5:30pm and AndrewEvans’ BBQ Joint will provide a catered dinner, $30 per person billed to your club account.Some of you may remember that Andrew was the award-winning chef at the Inn at Easton.

Monday and Tuesday, September 26 and 27—St. MichaelsThis is a short cruise of only about 8 miles from the Whitcomb’s home. There are 15 slipsbeing held for us at the St. Michaels Marina (call Ann at 410-745-2400) and 10 slips at theChesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) (call Jody at 410-745-4946). Please makeyour own reservations. There are no group activities scheduled for Monday.We’ll gather for cocktails at the Town Dock Restaurant at 5:30pm on Tuesday the 27th.Dinner will be at the Town Dock restaurant; payment will be by individual check.In addition to the CBMM’s ongoing exhibits, they have a special exhibit called “Illuminatingthe Sea: The Marine Paintings of James E. Buttersworth 1817-1894." Of course there arebikes to rent at the marina, spa treatments (Five Gables, Inn at Perry Cabin), or justshopping. Breakfasts, lunches, and Monday’s dinner are on your own.Wednesday, September 28—The Wye RiverThe next leg of the cruise takes us to the other sideof Wye Island to Julie and Michael Turner’s home(38°56’04”N 76°10’03W) on the Wye River (FrontWye). This is only an 11-mile cruise from St.Michaels. Arrive after lunch and come ashore toexplore. Again, cocktails are BYO starting at5:30pm. Soft drinks, ice, and beer will beavailable. There will be a shared potluck dinnerand cruisers should bring a dish to share.Thursday, September 29—The Wye RiverCome ashore about 9:00am for potluck-shared breakfast in the morning. Kayaks will beavailable for your use at the Turner’s on Thursday.Activities have been arranged at the River Plantation at Pintail Point. This very elaboratefacility is only one mile by water from the Turner’s. Take the event tender to the main dockat the Manor House or you can dingy to their floating dock. The River Plantation staff willprovide transport by jitney to either the Hunters Oak Golf Club or the Sporting Clayswhichever you wish. There are two golf courses to choose from: the 18-hole Scottish LinksCourse or the 9-hole Parkland Course. Green fee is $59 including cart. There is a place forlunch on your own at the Golf Club.The sporting clays course has 20 stations and isvery well set up. You can pick 50 or 100 targets.50 targets will take about 2 hours. A cart andguide is provided. The cost is $25 for 50 targetsand $42 for 100. You can bring your own shotgunand shells or for $30 additional you can rent a gun.Your cruise leaders will make the reservationsat Pintail for your golf or sporting claysactivity. This needs to be done fairly soon

Costs for these activities should be paid by individual credit card at the time ofthe event.As a special alternative (or addition) to golf orshooting, Julie Turner will be conducting yogaclasses (no charge) on Thursday at the Pintail PointManor House.We will gather at the Turner's again for drinks at5:30 followed by a dinner catered by the excellentNarrows Restaurant, $35 per person charged toyour club account.Friday, September 30On Friday, those wishing to extend their cruise to the Chestertown Historic House Tour willbegin making their way up the Chester River. This night’s stopover is at anchor in theCorsica River. One or more boats will be designated as party boats for BYO cocktails andshared appetizers. Dinner is on your own boat.Saturday. October 1—ChestertownThe Historic House Tour starts at 1PM. Dock facilities in Chestertown are limited to thesmall Chestertown Marina. We will attempt to reserve some slips there. There is goodanchorage in the Chester River by the town, with an easy tie up at the marina’s large dinghydock. Information concerning advance purchase of tickets will be forthcoming. We arecurrently in discussion with the Imperial Hotel about a repeat of last year’s dinner in theirprivate Atrium room. Details to follow.
