This activecruise takes you <strong>to</strong> two member's homes with a s<strong>to</strong>p in St. Michaels<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n links up with <strong>the</strong> cruise up <strong>the</strong> Chester River <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> His<strong>to</strong>ric Homes Tour inChester<strong>to</strong>wn. Because of <strong>the</strong> length of time involved, <strong>the</strong> cruise has been designed <strong>to</strong>allow cruisers <strong>to</strong> join <strong>and</strong> depart as <strong>the</strong>ir schedule permits. Come ashore when you want, swim in <strong>the</strong>heated pool, play croquet, or explore by dingy. Dinner is ashorewith BYO cocktails beginning about 5:30pm. Soft drinks, ice <strong>and</strong>beer will be available. The Whitcombs will provide honey bakedham <strong>and</strong> turkey. <strong>Cruise</strong>rs should bring a side dish or dessert <strong>to</strong>share with everyone.Sunday, September 25—Wye East RiverIn <strong>the</strong> morning, come ashore about 9:00am for coffee <strong>and</strong> sharedpotluck breakfast. Lunch is on your own. Activities includehiking at Pickering Creek Audubon Center (PCAC) or <strong>the</strong> WyeIsl<strong>and</strong> Natural Resources Area (NRMA). Miles of trails are available at PCAC through oldgrowth forests, meadows <strong>and</strong> wetl<strong>and</strong>s. Wildlife can be viewed from observation decks<strong>and</strong> blinds. Transportation by van <strong>to</strong> PCAC will be provided.Ano<strong>the</strong>r option is hiking at <strong>the</strong> Wye Isl<strong>and</strong> NRMA. The isl<strong>and</strong> consists of 2,450 acres of l<strong>and</strong>managed for recreation <strong>and</strong> resource protection. There are 12 miles of beautiful trails all ofwhich are well posted (maps will be provided). Access <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong> is at <strong>the</strong> dock at <strong>the</strong>head of Dividing Creek using <strong>the</strong> event tender, dingy or kayak. Kayaks will be available foryour use on Sunday.Dinner on Sunday is ashore at <strong>the</strong> Whitcomb’s. BYO cocktails are at 5:30pm <strong>and</strong> AndrewEvans’ BBQ Joint will provide a catered dinner, $30 per person billed <strong>to</strong> your club account.Some of you may remember that Andrew was <strong>the</strong> award-winning chef at <strong>the</strong> Inn at Eas<strong>to</strong>n.


Monday <strong>and</strong> Tuesday, September 26 <strong>and</strong> 27—St. MichaelsThis is a short cruise of only about 8 miles from <strong>the</strong> Whitcomb’s home. There are 15 slipsbeing held for us at <strong>the</strong> St. Michaels Marina (call Ann at 410-745-2400) <strong>and</strong> 10 slips at <strong>the</strong>Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) (call Jody at 410-745-4946). Please makeyour own reservations. There are no group activities scheduled for Monday.We’ll ga<strong>the</strong>r for cocktails at <strong>the</strong> Town Dock Restaurant at 5:30pm on Tuesday <strong>the</strong> 27th.Dinner will be at <strong>the</strong> Town Dock restaurant; payment will be by individual check.In addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> CBMM’s ongoing exhibits, <strong>the</strong>y have a special exhibit called “Illuminating<strong>the</strong> Sea: The Marine Paintings of James E. Buttersworth 1817-1894." Of course <strong>the</strong>re arebikes <strong>to</strong> rent at <strong>the</strong> marina, spa treatments (Five Gables, Inn at Perry Cabin), or justshopping. Breakfasts, lunches, <strong>and</strong> Monday’s dinner are on your own.Wednesday, September 28—The Wye RiverThe next leg of <strong>the</strong> cruise takes us <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r sideof Wye Isl<strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong> Julie <strong>and</strong> Michael Turner’s home(38°56’04”N 76°10’03W) on <strong>the</strong> Wye River (FrontWye). This is only an 11-mile cruise from St.Michaels. Arrive after lunch <strong>and</strong> come ashore <strong>to</strong>explore. Again, cocktails are BYO starting at5:30pm. Soft drinks, ice, <strong>and</strong> beer will beavailable. There will be a shared potluck dinner<strong>and</strong> cruisers should bring a dish <strong>to</strong> share.Thursday, September 29—The Wye RiverCome ashore about 9:00am for potluck-shared breakfast in <strong>the</strong> morning. Kayaks will beavailable for your use at <strong>the</strong> Turner’s on Thursday.Activities have been arranged at <strong>the</strong> River Plantation at Pintail Point. This very elaboratefacility is only one mile by water from <strong>the</strong> Turner’s. Take <strong>the</strong> event tender <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> main dockat <strong>the</strong> Manor House or you can dingy <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir floating dock. The River Plantation staff willprovide transport by jitney <strong>to</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Hunters Oak Golf Club or <strong>the</strong> Sporting Clayswhichever you wish. There are two golf courses <strong>to</strong> choose from: <strong>the</strong> 18-hole Scottish LinksCourse or <strong>the</strong> 9-hole Parkl<strong>and</strong> Course. Green fee is $59 including cart. There is a place forlunch on your own at <strong>the</strong> Golf Club.The sporting clays course has 20 stations <strong>and</strong> isvery well set up. You can pick 50 or 100 targets.50 targets will take about 2 hours. A cart <strong>and</strong>guide is provided. The cost is $25 for 50 targets<strong>and</strong> $42 for 100. You can bring your own shotgun<strong>and</strong> shells or for $30 additional you can rent a gun.Your cruise leaders will make <strong>the</strong> reservationsat Pintail for your golf or sporting claysactivity. This needs <strong>to</strong> be done fairly soon

This night’s s<strong>to</strong>pover is at anchor in <strong>the</strong>Corsica River. One or more boats will be designated as party boats for BYO cocktails <strong>and</strong>shared appetizers. Dinner is on your own boat.Saturday. Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1—Chester<strong>to</strong>wnThe His<strong>to</strong>ric House Tour starts at 1PM. Dock facilities in Chester<strong>to</strong>wn are limited <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>small Chester<strong>to</strong>wn Marina. We will attempt <strong>to</strong> reserve some slips <strong>the</strong>re. There is goodanchorage in <strong>the</strong> Chester River by <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>wn, with an easy tie up at <strong>the</strong> marina’s large dinghydock. Information concerning advance purchase of tickets will be forthcoming. We arecurrently in discussion with <strong>the</strong> Imperial Hotel about a repeat of last year’s dinner in <strong>the</strong>irprivate Atrium room. Details <strong>to</strong> follow.
