Thecolluvium is generally derived from fine textured slates and schists . On steepe rslopes, this map unit may present serious stability problems such as those on th enorth corner of Mount Hurd where there is abundant evidence of ongoing soil cree pas well as mudflow scars . Snow avalanching may be associated with parts of thi smap unit and is designated as BG5 +A where the avalanching occurs on less tha nabout 25% of the map unit and is restricted to well defined chutes, or as BG5Awhere avalanching occurs on more than 25% of this map unit . These soils do notusually have an Ah horizon .
