-45-are calcareous, stratified, medium and coarse textured alluvium . The soils characterizingthe Beaverfoot soilscape group are Gleysolics which are subject to annua lflooding . The Kicking Horse soilscape group is characterized by Regosolic soil swhich receive occasional flooding and the Otterhead soilscape group is characterize dby Brunisolic soils which are above the present floodplain .Fluvial Fan Landform sWatchtower (WR), Clawson (CO), Hoodoo (HO), Opabin (OP), Molliso n(MO) and Wiwaxy (WI) are the soilscape groups which are associated with fluvia lfans and aprons (Figure 99) . These landforms occur at the valley bottom, wher emarked reductions in stream gradient results in fan shaped deposits . The material smay be calcareous or non-calcareous and medium or coarse textured, dependin gmainly upon the type of bedrock within the drainage basin and especially where th edowncutting is occurring . There may be a considerable variation in the texture an dcoarse fragment content of the materials on any given fan due to the nature of th edeposition of fluvial fans . The fans usually have one or more stream channels whic hmay shift during spring flooding, especially on the steeper fans . On fans with gentl eslopes, there is often a small amount of overland flow adjacent to the channels durin gspring runoff. The shifting stream channels and temporary overland flow result i nRegosolic soils on the majority of fluvial fans . However, Brunisolic and Podzoli csoils do occur on the older and more stable fans and Gleysolic soils occur on severa lgently sloping fans .Glaciofluvial Landform sHaygarth (HR) and Takakkaw (TA) are the soilscape groups which are associatedwith glaciofluvial landforms (Figures 34, 39) . Generally they occur o nglaciofluvial terraces of limited areal extent, but small glaciofluvial fans, plains ,blankets and veneers, as well as ridged glaciofluvial deposits are also present .Glaciofluvial deposits are found at low elevations along the sides of the majo rvalleys, with maximum elevations being about 1750 metres in the Narao Lake sarea . The materials are well sorted, calcareous sands and gravels generally overlain
