Each bedroom hasacable television outlet and a housing computer network (DHNet) outlet.Laundry facilities, mail boxes, recreation rooms, a food vending area, and alibrary are also featured.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> architectural design by KBJ Architects, Inc. <strong>of</strong> Jacksonville, FL isinnovative and repeated on campuses across <strong>the</strong> U.S. Bradley ConstructionCompany <strong>of</strong> Clearwater, FL completed construction in 1991.Resident Assistants and StaffResident Assistants (RAs)RAs are students who work with <strong>the</strong> Housing <strong>to</strong> plan programs, handle houseadministrative details, act as resource people, organize social and educationalactivities, and perform countless o<strong>the</strong>r visible and behind-<strong>the</strong>-scenes tasks.Each RA is responsible for 47 residents and he/she lives in <strong>the</strong> house. <strong>The</strong>ywork closely with <strong>the</strong>ir supervisor (GHD) and <strong>the</strong> staff in <strong>the</strong> building <strong>to</strong> provide<strong>the</strong> ultimate living & learning experience. <strong>The</strong>y are one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prime reasons <strong>the</strong>

Her <strong>of</strong>fice is located in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong><strong>Residential</strong> <strong>Complex</strong>.<strong>Keys</strong> Governing Body [KGB]<strong>The</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> Governing Body (KGB) is a student-run organization which, under <strong>the</strong>guidance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Inter-Residence Hall Association (IRHA), represents arearesidents <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Division <strong>of</strong> Housing and provides social events and o<strong>the</strong>rservices for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong>. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Council is made up <strong>of</strong> anExecutive Board consisting <strong>of</strong> a President, Vice-President, Secretary,Treasurer, Business Manager, Publicity Direc<strong>to</strong>r. <strong>The</strong> full council <strong>meet</strong>s eachweek <strong>to</strong> discuss and plan upcoming area and campus events. Involvement inKGB and IRHA develops leadership and organizational skills and is a great way<strong>to</strong> make new friends!KGB CardsKGB sells activity cards <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> in order <strong>to</strong> fundsocials, dances. Barbeques, and athletic <strong>to</strong>urnaments. Residents who purchase<strong>the</strong> KGB cards are admitted <strong>to</strong> every event FREE. Three full-time university employees staff this <strong>of</strong>fice. It is <strong>the</strong>ir job<strong>to</strong> make sure all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> administrative processes (room assignments, roomtransfers, check-in, check-out, cancellations) run smoothly. <strong>The</strong>y can be <strong>of</strong>assistance if you run in<strong>to</strong> administrative problems. <strong>The</strong> aforementioned staff <strong>of</strong>

REMEMBER THE OFFICE IS OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY, 7DAYS A WEEK.<strong>Keys</strong> — A resident may check out <strong>the</strong> lockout key for <strong>the</strong>ir room from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong><strong>Complex</strong> Desk but must return it within 30 minutes. If <strong>the</strong> key is not returnedwithin <strong>the</strong> 30-minute period, you will be charged for a lock change. Please notethat residents who abuse <strong>the</strong> lockout key policy are subject <strong>to</strong> disciplinaryaction. <strong>The</strong>re will be a Lock-out charge for anyone who has <strong>to</strong> check out keysmore than four times a semester For residents staying over <strong>the</strong> summer, <strong>the</strong>rewill be a lock-out charge for anyone who has <strong>to</strong> check out keys more than twotimes during <strong>the</strong> Summer C Session.• LOST KEY CHARGES Room Key - $72.00, Commons Key -$25.00, Lockouts - $8.00 (after 4 th lockout during semester; after2 nd lockout during summer). In addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> key charge, <strong>the</strong>re willbe a $2.00 administration fee.Room Condition Forms — This form is an inven<strong>to</strong>ry and record <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>condition <strong>of</strong> your room at <strong>the</strong> time you moved in. It is very important that youreview and complete this form in detail and return it <strong>to</strong> your RA. This informationis used <strong>to</strong> assess damage charges when you check out and it is in your bestinterest <strong>to</strong> be sure that <strong>the</strong> form really reflects <strong>the</strong> current condition <strong>of</strong> yourroom. If different, you have 24 hours <strong>to</strong> let your RA know.Room Switches/Transfers — Under NO circumstances may students changerooms without prior approval from <strong>the</strong> Area Office. In most cases a room switchis possible but failing <strong>to</strong> follow proper procedure will result in disciplinary action.Bulletin Boards — As you walk through <strong>the</strong> Area each day, take a look at <strong>the</strong>large bulletin boards placed throughout <strong>the</strong> buildings. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se boards arelabeled “Administrative Notice Only” and are only for use by Housing Staff.O<strong>the</strong>r boards are “Public Notice” boards and may be used by anyone. However,Housing is responsible for <strong>the</strong> upkeep <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Public Notice” boards and mayremove all items on <strong>the</strong>m periodically if <strong>the</strong>y become unsightly or if <strong>the</strong> materialis out-<strong>of</strong>-date. ADDITIONALLY, PUBLIC NOTICES NOT ATTACHED TO THEBULLETIN BOARDS WILL BE REMOVED. Repeat <strong>of</strong>fenders are subject <strong>to</strong>disciplinary action.<strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Library — <strong>The</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Library is located in <strong>the</strong>commons. It is a quiet and convenient place for area residents <strong>to</strong> study. Atcertain times (<strong>to</strong> be posted), <strong>the</strong>re is a student librarian on duty who can assistyou with books in <strong>the</strong> glass cases. However, <strong>the</strong> library itself is open 24 hours aday. You will need your entrance key <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> commons where <strong>the</strong> library islocated.


Televisions & Study Lounges — <strong>The</strong> commons is equipped with a colortelevision. This TV may be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but pleasebe considerate <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs who may be in <strong>the</strong> commons.Cable TV — TV cables and connec<strong>to</strong>rs for older TVs are available for check outat <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Office Desk. You are responsible for <strong>the</strong>se items afterchecking <strong>the</strong>m out and you must return <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Area Office desk along withyour keys at <strong>the</strong> time you move from your residence hall.Change Machines — <strong>The</strong>re is a change machine located in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong>commons by <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.Vending Refunds — <strong>The</strong>se are available at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Desk between8:00 am and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. You must see <strong>the</strong> clerk on dutyduring <strong>the</strong> day for this service. In <strong>the</strong> event that you “lose” money in a machineduring a different time period, come down <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> desk when <strong>the</strong> clerk is on duty.Be sure <strong>to</strong> remember which machine <strong>was</strong> involved and any o<strong>the</strong>r importantinformation such as <strong>the</strong> code or serial number on <strong>the</strong> machine.Ice Machine — <strong>The</strong> ice machine is located in <strong>the</strong> vending area in <strong>the</strong>commons.Laundry Room — <strong>The</strong>re is one located in <strong>the</strong> commons. Both <strong>was</strong>hers anddryers cost $0.75.Bicycle Parking — Park and lock your bicycles <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> bike racks in <strong>the</strong>designated areas. <strong>The</strong>re will be no chaining bikes <strong>to</strong> handrails or <strong>to</strong> any objec<strong>to</strong><strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> bike racks. DO NOT leave bikes in <strong>the</strong> breezeway. If bikes arelocked <strong>to</strong> anything o<strong>the</strong>r than bike racks <strong>the</strong>y will be confiscated.Mo<strong>to</strong>r Scooter Parking – Properly park your mo<strong>to</strong>r scooters in <strong>the</strong> designatedareas. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY REIDENTS DRIVE THEIRSCOOTERS ON THE SIDEWALKS! Residents who violate this policy will besubject <strong>to</strong> University Judicial and monetary fines by University Police. Mo<strong>to</strong>rscooters not properly parked in designated areas will be <strong>to</strong>wed at <strong>the</strong> owner’sexpense.RA on-call — <strong>The</strong>re is a RA on-call every Monday through Friday 5:00pm <strong>to</strong>8:00am, and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. If you need a RA and cannotlocate one, call or visit <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> Office at 392-8107 <strong>to</strong> inquire aboutseeking <strong>the</strong> assistance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> RA on-call.Housing Security — If you need security assistance or simply want <strong>to</strong> reportsomething suspicious, you may call Housing Security at 392-2495. <strong>The</strong>re is atrained student with a two-way radio that patrols <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong> and assistswith <strong>the</strong> safety and security <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> residents at night. This service is available


from 10:00pm <strong>to</strong> 6:00am and has a link with <strong>the</strong> RA on-call in an effort <strong>to</strong> spotany problem situations such as propped doors or suspicious individuals.Mail at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong>Mail is delivered once a day with <strong>the</strong> exception <strong>of</strong> Sundays and holidays.Packages that come through <strong>the</strong> U.S. mail are delivered each morning.Residents will get a package notices in <strong>the</strong>ir message boxes, which are locatedon <strong>the</strong> ground floor <strong>of</strong> each building. Residents must present <strong>the</strong> packagenotice along with a picture ID <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Area Desk staff. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong> <strong>Complex</strong>, <strong>the</strong>misdirected mail slot is located in <strong>the</strong> vending area. Onlyelectrical cords with a 14 gauge or heavier rating are allowed. <strong>The</strong>y may notexceed 10 feet in length and must have 3 wire grounded plugs. Only oneextension cord per outlet is allowed with only one item plugged in<strong>to</strong> eachextension cord. Extensions cords can not be strung <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r across an area.Multi-plug adapters MUST have a circuit breaker. Please check <strong>the</strong> Fire SafetyBooklet and/or Community Standards which <strong>was</strong> given <strong>to</strong> you at check in. Your electric use is budgeted in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Keys</strong>. <strong>The</strong>re is a sticker in your apartmen<strong>to</strong>n <strong>the</strong> breaker box in <strong>the</strong> hall. <strong>The</strong> sticker tells you when <strong>the</strong> meters are readand <strong>the</strong> maximum usage levels included in current rental rates.
