The staff captain radioed hisobservati<strong>on</strong>s to <strong>the</strong> master and asked that all five fire teams be alerted and that <strong>the</strong> entireaft MVZ be secured.8 An announcement of “Alpha Team” was <strong>the</strong> signal for <strong>the</strong> quick resp<strong>on</strong>se team to assemble in <strong>the</strong>marshalling area. The quick resp<strong>on</strong>se team, comprising <strong>the</strong> fire patrol chief and a 5-pers<strong>on</strong> envir<strong>on</strong>mentalteam, was <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>board unit required to resp<strong>on</strong>d first to a fire emergency and to take acti<strong>on</strong> to suppress a fireuntil <strong>the</strong> ship’s fire teams could arrive.
