Business & enterprise:our specialismBuilding values anddeveloping enterprise skillsThe academy’s specialism in business and enterprise enablestremendous scope for students to experience the world of workfor themselves.Furthermore, they have a very real opportunity todevelop their enterprise skills and business understanding.Students are given the chance to undertake a fullemployability programme designed to develop theirunderstanding of the world of work and find out whatexcites them.Not only do students complete work placements, theyalso take part in visits and tours to colleges and workplaces and receive personal support to help guide themin their career choices and further study options.The academy works alongside a number of locally basedbusinesses who share their expertise and create realemployment prospects for our students.The academy places tremendous emphasis on developing skillsto enable students to be successful in their careers. Enterpriseskills enable students to have a ‘can do’ attitude. This starts withdeveloping their Six Rs.These values nurture reasoning, reflection, resilience,resourcefulness, responsibility and respect within ourstudents and establish the foundations and core valuesfor our students and staff. These attributes form thebasis of our rewards system which recognises successand rewards positive behaviour.As students progress through the academy andmaster these skills, the older students are then activelyencouraged to develop their enterprise skills – theirleadership, team working, creativity, innovation, riskmanagement and problem solving skills. Post 16Our post 16 curriculum is highly focused, ICT rich and designedto ensure that our students develop the skills necessary toachieve success.Students can choose from courses at all levels including business,hospitality, sport, health and social care and fashion; which willenable them to make real choices about their future destination.Students receive ongoing mentoring and support at post 16
