74/131 Bosch Rexroth AG | Electric Drivesand ControlsRexroth MKE Synchronous Motors | Project Planning ManualOperating Conditions and Application NotesEquipment group II Category 1Equipment that are designed so as to function in conformity with the operationalparameters established by the manufacturer and so as to ensure avery high level of protection. Equipment of this category is intended for use inareas in which explosive atmospheres caused by mixtures of air and gases, vapours or mists or by air/dust mixtures are present continuously, for long periodsor frequently. Equipment of this category must ensure the required levelof protection, even if there are only rare incidents, and is characterized bymeans of protection, meaning that●●in the event of failure of one means of protection, at least an independentsecond means of protection provides the required level of protection; orin the event of two faults occurring independently of each other, the requiredprotection is guaranteed.Motors of equipment group II, category 1 for the use in potentiallyexplosive areas are not offered by Bosch Rexroth.Equipment group II Category 2Equipment designed so as to function in conformity with the operationalparameters established by the manufacturer and so as to ensure a high levelof protection. Equipment of this category is intendend for use in areas, in whichit can be expected that an explosive atmosphere of dust / air mixture can occuroccasionally. The means of protection relating to equipment in this categoryensure the required level of protection, even in case of frequently occurringdisturbances which normally have to be taken into account.are equipment according to equipment group II, category 2 for usein potentially explosive areas.Equipment group II Category 3Equipment designed so as to function in conformity with the operationalparameters established by the manufacturer and so as to ensure a normal levelof protection. Equipment of this category is intended for use in areas in whichexplosive atmospheres caused by dust whirled up are unlikely to occur or, ifthey do occur, are likely to do so only rarely and for a short period of time.Equipment of this category ensures the required level of protection during normaloperation.in housing type "S" is equipment according to equipment group II,category 3 for use in potentially explosive areas. The following terms are used in the European Standard EN 50014: 1992.Electrical equipmentPotentially explosive areaExplosive gas atmosphereExplosive test mixOperating temperatureAll items as a whole or in part for the utilization of electrical energy. Theseinclude, among others, items for the generation, transmission, distribution, storage, measurement, regulation, conversion, and consumption of electricalenergy for telecommunication applications. An area which could become explosive (the danger is a potential one).A mixture of air, under atmospheric conditions, with inflammable substances inthe form of gas, vapour or mist, in which - after an ignition - a combustionspreads throughout the unburnt mixture.A specified explosive mixture used for the testing of electrical equipment forpotentially explosive areas. The temperature that is reached, when the apparatus is operating at its rating.
