CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORKMiracle<strong>2008</strong>DayWith <strong>2008</strong> dubbed as their“Miracle Season,” Wal-Martand Sam’s Club associates gatheredat ACH in April for abaseball-themed event in theirhonor. In addition to kickingoff their new fundraising year,the associates also celebratedthe previous year’s success.More than 200 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club associatesattended the event on April 2.Highlighting the event were the stories shared by patientfamilies who were special guests at the event. The storiesrepresented some of the everyday miracles that happen atACH. Guests heard first from Hunter Hoover, the <strong>2008</strong>CMN Champion Child (see page 4).Hunter was followed by Mackenzie Bryant, a 15-year-oldfrom Conway who was treated at ACH as a newborn. Laterin the program, the group heard from Luola “Nana” Harris,whose granddaughter, the daughter of a Wal-Mart associate,was currently undergoing treatment at ACH for a heartdefect.Wal-Mart and Sam’s ClubAssociates Gather to Kick OffTheir “Miracle Season”In 2007, associates and customers from themore than 140 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locationsin ACH’s Children’s Miracle Network(CMN) market raised $1.1 million for thehospital, money that directly benefits thepatients and programs of ACH.For <strong>2008</strong>, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Clubassociates will continue their efforts to raise$2 million to endow a chair in neonatology.An endowed chair in neonatology will be instrumental in helpingestablish a neonatal clinical research enterprise, which will totallyencompass neonatal outcomes – research, education and outreach.An endowed chair is among the highest honors awarded by<strong>Arkansas</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> and the University of <strong>Arkansas</strong> forMedical Sciences, reserved for only the best and the brightest physiciansand staff members. An endowed chair recognizes and promotesexcellence in pediatric medicine and signifies the hospital'scommitment to support that work. Endowed chairs enable <strong>Arkansas</strong><strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> to attract and retain the best specialists.In between the patient presentations, members of the ACH CMNstaff presented top fundraising awards, after which guests were treatedto lunch and hospital tours.It wouldn’t be a Wal-Mart event without theWal-Mart and Sam’sClub cheers. Associatesfrom Sam’s Club #8266(Sherwood) lead thegroup in the Sam’s Clubcheer.12
