HOCKEY CLUB PERSONNELASSISTANT COACHRyanMcGILLRyan McGill, a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, joins the Calgary Flames asan Assistant Coach after four seasons as the Head Coach for the Flames AHLprimary affiliate team in Quad City and Omaha. Prior to that, McGill was the headcoach of the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) for three seasons, winning the AtlanticDivision and earning a berth in the Eastern Conference Final in 2004. As HeadCoach of the Kootenay Ice (WHL) for four and a half season, McGill lead the teamto capture the 2002 Memorial Cup and WHL Championships in both 2000 and2002. Originally a 2nd round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1987 <strong>NHL</strong>Draft, McGill has played in 151 <strong>NHL</strong> games split between Chicago, Philadelphiaand Edmonton.The Chicago Blackhawks selected defenceman Ryan McGill in round two ofthe 1987 <strong>NHL</strong> Entry Draft, 29th overall. McGill began his junior career with theLethbridge Broncos when he was 16. Going into his third year McGill was tradedto the Medicine Hat Tigers, who were the defending Memorial Cup champions.He helped the Tigers gain their second consecutive Memorial Cup victory in1988. McGill spent several years in the minors before he was called up to theBlackhawks for nine games during the 1991-92 season. He was traded to the Quebec Nordiques in March, 1991but was sent back to the Blackhawks in September, and Chicago traded him again in February, 1992 to thePhiladelphia Flyers. In March, 1995 McGill was traded to the Edmonton Oilers but lasted just eight games. OnApril 5, 1995 he suffered a career-ending eye injury in a game against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.Ryan and his wife Karen have two daughters; Kate and Kyla.ASSISTANT COACHDaveLOWRYDave Lowry was named Assistant Coach of the Calgary Flames on June 23, <strong>2009</strong>.Lowry rejoined Calgary after finishing his playing career with the Flames in 2004.Most recently, Lowry was the Head Coach of the Calgary Hitmen (WHL) duringthe 2008-09 season, and guided the Hitmen to the best record in the WHL (59-9-3-1) and a berth in the <strong>2009</strong> WHL Championship as the Eastern Conferencechampions.Lowry was an Associate Coach with the Hitmen in 2007-08 and an AssistantCoach from 2005-07, making it to the Eastern Conference final in both 2007and 2008.Lowry was born in Sudbury, Ontario and played in the OHL with the LondonKnights. He played three seasons from 1982-83 to 1984-85 collecting 223 points(<strong>10</strong>0 goals, 123 assists) in 169 games. His 120 point season in 1984-85 made himan OHL First Team All Star.Lowry was Vancouver’s 6th choice, 114th overall in the 1983 <strong>NHL</strong> entry draft. Ithelped launch a National Hockey League career that would span 19 seasons. Dave played <strong>10</strong>84 career games(164 goals, 187 assists for 351 points) with five teams; Vancouver, St. Louis, Florida, San Jose and Calgary.Lowry also played in 111 playoff games (16 goals, 20 assists, 36 points) with his best post season run in thespring of ‘96. Dave helped the Florida Panthers to the Stanley Cup final, picking up a team leading 17 pointsin 22 games.<strong>NHL</strong> Recap: Traded to St. Louis by Vancouver for Ernie Vargas, September 29, 1988. Traded to San Jose by Florida with Florida’s 1st round choice (latertraded to Tampa Bay-Tampa Bay selected Vincent Lecavalier) for Viktor Kozlov and Florida’s 5th round choice(previously acquired, Florida selected Jaroslav Spacek) in 1998 Entry Draft, November 13, 1997. Signed as a freeagent by Calgary, July 26, 2000.
