PReSIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERKen King has a big heart, a strong handshake, and a soft spot forCalgary, the Calgary Flames and Calgary Flames fans.President and Chief Executive Officer of the Flames since summer2001, King puts his family first.But, close behind are Flames fans who also cherish the traditions andexcitement of the National Hockey League. Look for him greeting fansbetween periods. He is genuinely interested in what they have to sayabout the game and their team.King is also enthusiastic about the business of hockey and devoted toserving the Calgary <strong>com</strong>munity.Like you, King has enjoyed the incredible Calgary Flames journey inrecent years. He appreciates a resurgence of support both inside thePengrowth Saddledome and across southern Alberta. And he tooKenKINGlongs for another spectacular 2003/2004-type season, the road to the Stanley Cup finals and this time –a championship.Born and raised in Hanley, Saskatchewan, King launched a 30-year career in the newspaper businessthat included senior executive positions in Canada’s leading newspapers including President andPublisher of the Calgary Sun and Calgary Herald.During his newspaper career in Calgary, King was acknowledged for his innovative marketing,establishment of healthy corporate relationships, spirited <strong>com</strong>munity leadership and appreciablegrowth for the newspapers.King is a strong believer in contributing to the <strong>com</strong>munity and he spends an enormous amount of timewith <strong>com</strong>munity efforts. His current involvement spans numerous organizations, including co-chair ofREACH (a $300 million medical fund-raising initiative), the Calgary Committee to End Homelessness,the Calgary Sport Tourism Authority, the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede, Borden Ladner Gervais CIAUAthlete of the Year Awards Committee and the Rotary Club of Calgary.Previous support and <strong>com</strong>mitment involved the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre, Calgary PhilharmonicSociety, No Ka Oi Ranch Foundation and past-chairman of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.In 2005, King received an Alberta Centennial Medal for outstanding contributions to the provinceof Alberta. Other awards include the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for <strong>com</strong>munity service and the<strong>com</strong>memorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. In 1991, he washonoured as B’Nai Brith Man of the Year.King is an avid but mediocre golfer and like many other Albertans, shares a passion for horses whichhe most often, but not always, stays mounted on. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two daughters,Amanda and Jocelin. King also has twin grandsons – first round <strong>NHL</strong> draft picks in 2022.He also serves as an Alternate Governor of the <strong>NHL</strong> and President & Chief Executive Officer of theWestern Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen.11 <strong>CALGARY</strong> <strong>FLAMES</strong>
