VISITATION, ELMHURST, IL DECEMBER 18, 2005Sunday and Holy Day EnvelopesThis year, we have the unusualcoincidence of Christmas and NewYear’s Day falling on Sundays. Whilethis is certainly convenient for ourMass schedule, it can also put a strainon our parish finances. Our annual parish budget is based on51 Sunday collections (Easter Sunday is separate) alongwith Christmas and New Years collections, so we reallycount on both your usual Sunday contributions and yourHoly Day contributions on these days. May God bless youfor your faithful stewardship each week as well as your generousdonations at the end of the year to help fund the manyministries and programs at Visitation. Thanks for all you doto make our parish such a vibrant community.Answers to Your Questions(based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church)Meeting SummaryThe Parish Pastoral Council met on Tuesday, December6, at 7:00 P.M. in Podesta Hall. The next meeting will be in January on a date yet tobe determined.Do you have questions about your Catholic faith? Haveyou wondered how to answer someone who challenges theChurch? Have you ever felt a bit embarrassed because youcouldn’t come up with explanations? Answers to YourQuestions will address one question in the bulletin everyweek from October 30 through December 18.Q: You’ve been talking about the Sacrament ofReconciliation. I’d like to receive the Sacrament, but franklyam afraid to do so. And I forgot the formula.A: Congratulations on your decision! There is no formulaand it is easier than you think. Remember that the priest has“heard id all.” Your sins won’t shock him. Here’s how to goabout it. 1) Be truly sorry for your sins and decide to try notto commit them again, 2) tell the priest when you went to confessionlast, list your sins and an estimate of the times youcommitted them, 3) listen to his advice, 4) make an Act ofContrition (you can bring a copy of this into the confessionalif you don’t remember it), 5) leave the confessional andimmediately say the penance the priest gave you. That’s it and you’ll feel wonderful. By the way, you don’thave to confess your sins “face to face.” You may go “incognito”behind the screen. And if all the above is still difficult for you, simply ask thepriest for his help.Monthly Devotions in Honor of St. PeregrinePatron of those who suffer from Cancerand Other Chronic or Incurable DiseasesThis Tuesday is the third Tuesday ofthe month and we will hold our monthlydevotions in honor of Saint Peregrine, the patron saint of those who sufferfrom cancer and other chronic or incurablediseases. If you haven't done so already, please take the timeto complete one. Surveys are available in the back of thechurch. All surveys are due today, Sunday, December 18,and can be returned in the Sunday collection or dropped offin the Rectory mailboxYour feedback is vital to the success of this informationgathering effort. Thank you for your participation!Haste Does Not Make WasteMary went with haste to visit her cousin Elizabeth whowas pregnant with John the Baptist. Mary did not delay; shemade her VISITATION immediately and stayed threemonths. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant(John) “leaped in her womb” and Elizabeth and John were“filled with the Holy Spirit.”Many times we delay our acts of charity towards othersand our chance to pray before the Lord. We wait for a bettertime, a more ideal situation. Yet our experience is that by farmost delayed acts of kindness never happen at all. How manyphone calls have you wanted to place, or letters have youwanted to write, or visits have you wanted to make only todelay them to another time? Did they every get done? Howmany times have you wanted to visit the Adoration Chapeland pray to our Lord but put it off?Just as Elizabeth and John were “filled with the HolySpirit,” we are filled with that same Holy Spirit when we visitJesus in Adoration. Visitation is the name of our parish andyet most parishioners have “delayed” their VISITATION toJesus in Adoration and are not Registered Adorers. We needto learn from Mary. With her there was no fooling around, nowaiting for a better time. Hasten to visit Jesus, to become aRegistered Adorer.Haste Does Not Make Waste! The next meeting of the evening bible study will be thisTuesday, December 20. The gospel of John, chapters 11 and12 will be covered. Meetings are at 7:30 P.M. in MadonnaHall. All are welcome. Bring your bible and join us.Page 5
