The clever controlsystem at workTSCP3CP3CCAACP4CP4BBCP1CP2TSThe Philips Dynalite hotel control system comprehensively enables themanagement of guest comfort and hotel efficiencies. Here is an outlineof many of the system’s key capabilities.Outside the roomAn option for mounting a multifunction control panel outsidethe guest room is available. This can be used to indicate tohotel staff the room status, for example, “make up room”,“do not disturb” or “laundry pick-up required”.The multifunction control panel can also be used as a doorbell. This door bell can be disabled if the guest has nominatedthe “do not disturb” function of the control system.Room entryOnce inside, the guest enters the room card key into thecontrol systems card holder and this can then trigger multiplefunctions such as open blinds, adjust thermostat to previousset level and turn on lighting. With the control system ableto perform multiple functions automatically, the guest doesnot need to actively interact with the control system, as thecontrol system is interacting with them. This automation addsto guest comfort as they don’t need to operate multiplepanels, setting the room to their liking. When the guest leaves the room taking the card key withthem, the room will automatically perform a shut downsequence after a delay. Within the shut down sequence, thethermostat will be set to an economical mode, all lighting willbe switched off, designated power points can be disabled, therefore removing electronic devices on stand-by powerand the blinds can be closed insulating the room frompotential temperature change.Detecting guest requirementsWithin a hotel room there are many different elements thatcan be coordinated together.Lighting within the wardrobe can automatically be switchedon when the door has been opened, then turned off after adoor is closed and time delayed when the room is vacated. If the hotel room has a balcony door or window, the controlsystem can be set so that if the guest opens either of these, then the airconditioning system will automatically switchoff or change to a desired mode. This energy saving featurecan contribute to significantly reducing the cost of runningairconditioning services unnecessarily.Motion detection within the bathroom is a useful featureand prevents guests searching for control panels in the dark. The operation of the sensor can be dependent on the time, allowing different functionalities between night and day. Forexample, if occupancy is detected in the bathroom for the firsttime during the night, the lighting will slowly ramp up to a lowlevel, allowing guests to adjust. After no occupancy has beendetected, the lighting will automatically turn off in that area.Bedside panelThe bedside panels allows the guest to set the lighting scenefor the room as well as control bedside lighting, the ‘do notdisturb’ and the ‘goodnight’ functions, as well as window andblinds etc.Window dressing controlGuests can control curtains/blinds from the same panel thatprovides lighting, airconditioning and audio-visual control. Thiscontrol can also be programmed to open the curtains whenthe wake up alarm goes off.Airconditioning controlIntegrating the airconditioning system to the roommanagement system allows the hotel to reduce unnecessaryenergy consumption. Guests can view and set thetemperature level in the room and fan speed from the samepanel they use to control the lighting. If a touchscreen has been installed, this can also display thecurrent levels in the room and required set point as well asproviding control over the fan speed and temperature set.BA CurtainsAirconditioningopen tocoolsmaximiseroomambientto guest’slight.preference.They will only be opened if it is daylight outside.CB BedsideCurtainslightsopenfadeto maximiseon as guestambiententerslight.room.They will only be opened if it is daylight outside.■ CUsing Bedside a pre-built lights fade customer on as guest profile enters the suite room. can be set up when the guest checks in.■ Guest can recall scenes from each panel.■ Using a pre-built customer profile the suite can be set up when the guest checks in.■ When the guest leaves, the room shuts down in an orderly manner.■ Guest can recall scenes from each panel.■ When the guest leaves, the room shuts down in an orderly manner.CP3CP4Check-in integrationBy building a client profile into a local or global database, thehotel can configure the room to the guest’s preference oncheck-in.
