HXE4BBATTERY POWERED CRIMP TOOLDATASHEETOperationLED Work Light (White)This LED automatically turns on when the trigger is pulled. Itremains on for 10 seconds after the trigger is released.LED Indicator (Red)This <strong>tool</strong> is equipped with a special circuit boardincorporating several important features to inform the userabout the current status of the unit. If the <strong>tool</strong> is manually retracted before completion ofa <strong>crimp</strong>, the red LED and audible beep will be activefor 2 seconds. If the <strong>tool</strong> is unable to reach the required <strong>crimp</strong>force, the red LED, work light, and an audible beepwill pulse until after the trigger is released.Installing Dies1. Align die rail slots in die halves with the rail in the<strong>crimp</strong> <strong>tool</strong> and push shank of dies into holes. Dieswill snap into place. (See Figure 1)2. Cycle the <strong>tool</strong> to make sure dies are properly seated.The <strong>tool</strong> is now ready for use.Die Removal1. With the <strong>crimp</strong> dies open, place die removal <strong>tool</strong>against end of knockout pin and tap gently with smallhammer. (See Figure 2) The die will be releasedfrom the front die holder. It can now be removed byhand.2. Activate the <strong>tool</strong> until the movable die extends, butthe <strong>tool</strong> does not cycle fully. Slide the die removal<strong>tool</strong> between the die and <strong>tool</strong> body. (See Figure 3)Press the emergency release button to retract the<strong>tool</strong> pushrod. HXE4BBATTERY POWERED CRIMP TOOLPermanent Die Assembly1. Install dies in <strong>crimp</strong> <strong>tool</strong>.2. Drive lock pins, supplied with dies, through holes andflush with outside surfaces. Long pin through <strong>tool</strong>body and short pin through push rod. (See Figure 4)Preparing CableFollow the lug/connector manufacturer’s instructions forappropriate cable strip length, and contact/wire assembly.Crimping Cable1. Insert the properly assembled connector into the<strong>crimp</strong>ing head.2. Pull the trigger to make the <strong>crimp</strong>.3. Hold the trigger down until <strong>crimp</strong>ing <strong>tool</strong> achievespressure relief, which is accompanied by an audible“pop”.4. The <strong>crimp</strong> <strong>tool</strong> push rod retracts automatically.CAUTION! DO NOT OPERATE TOOL WITHOUT DIE SETIN PLACENote: If it is necessary to retract the <strong>tool</strong> push rod before a<strong>crimp</strong> cycle is completed, push and hold the EmergencyRelease button. Pushing and holding the EmergencyRelease button will result in the complete retraction of thepush rod.Gaging Die sets in the <strong>tool</strong>1. Ensure die set is properly installed in the <strong>tool</strong>2. Remove fingers/hands/ etc. from <strong>crimp</strong>ing area3. Jog the trigger by pulling and letting go quickly untilthe die faces are touching and will not slide on eachother with moderate hand pressure.4. Use appropriate GO/NO-GO gage for the die set tocheck conformance to appropriate dimensions.5. Remove GO/NO-GO gage from die6. Hold the trigger down until the cycle completes andthe dies retract to the open position.MaintenanceEach Operating DayBefore Use:1. Inspect dies for wear or damage such as cracks,gouges, or chips.DATASHEET2. Inspect the <strong>tool</strong> for damage or leaks. If damage isdetected, return the <strong>tool</strong> to the DMC repair center forinspection.After Use:1. Wipe all <strong>tool</strong> surfaces clean with a damp cloth andmild detergent.2. Charge the <strong>battery</strong>.3. Fully retract the <strong>tool</strong> push rod.4. Place the <strong>tool</strong> in the carrying case.5. Store in a cool dry place.Monthly1. Thoroughly clean all surfaces.2. Oil the push rod outer surface.Annually or after 10,000 Crimps1. Return the <strong>tool</strong> to the DMC repair center forinspection & calibration.Trouble ShootingBefore You Begin1. Make sure that the <strong>battery</strong> is charged. Recheck the<strong>battery</strong> after several minutes to make sure the<strong>battery</strong> is holding its charge.2. Use a nonflammable contact cleaner or pencil eraserto clean the electrical contacts on the <strong>battery</strong> and<strong>crimp</strong> <strong>tool</strong>.3. Reinstall the <strong>battery</strong> and check the <strong>tool</strong> again.Problem Probable Cause Probable RemedyTool is inoperative Dirt, contaminants, etc, Clean <strong>tool</strong>.in ram area of <strong>tool</strong>.Crimping <strong>tool</strong> <strong>battery</strong>contacts damaged.Tool components worn ordamaged.Reform contacts.Return <strong>tool</strong> to DMC.Dies stop during Oil level is low.
