TheSWAT members shared informationabout their activities<strong>and</strong> plans.The mission of SWAT is tounite <strong>and</strong> empower youth toresist <strong>and</strong> expose BigTobacco’s lies while changingcurrent attitudes about tobacco.The SWAT team explainedthat Oklahoma <strong>and</strong>the Lomega School systemhave much to be proud of.The SWAT Team workedwith their school to pass the24/7 tobacco free school policylast year, which means no tobaccouse is allowed on theschool campus 24 hours a day,seven days a week.But according to the SWATstudents, there is still a lot ofwork to be done. Previously,Oklahoma was ranked 48th inthe healthiest state rankings.We are now ranked 43rd.How can SWAT make adifference? SWAT is notagainst the tobacco user, butthey are against the tobaccoindustry. Major tobacco companiesspend 12.5 billion dollarsevery year on advertising,much of which is used totarget youth. Even with thisfact, cigarette smoking amonghigh school students has declinedsignificantly in the lastfew years.
