[Photo Provided]Dover grad arrested in Capitol bomb hoaxA former Dover High Schoolraduate is one of two people arestedin connection with a bomboax that led to the evacuation of thetate Capitol last Friday.Whittni Butts, 18, who graduatedast May from DHS, <strong>and</strong> Eric Thompon,45, who is identified as her boyfriend,are being held on anticipatedcharges of threatening to use a bomb<strong>and</strong> false impersonation.Butts allegedly called 911 from apayphone about 10:25 a.m. Friday<strong>and</strong> said a bomb would explode infive minutes at the governor’s mansion<strong>and</strong> another building.Gov. Mary Fallin, who was in heroffice in the State Capitol, orderedthe Capitol to be evacuated <strong>and</strong> shewas escorted from the building.Among the more than 1,000 peopleevacuated were the nearly 600 Capitolemployees <strong>and</strong> more than 500 fifthgraders dressed in colonial costumes,who were participating in the annualColonial Day.About 300 of the children <strong>and</strong> theirteachers were escorted inside a nearbyoffice building, but other students,teachers <strong>and</strong> parent sponsors remainedoutside <strong>and</strong> carried on with[See Bomb Page 8A]School board reviews dropout reportBy Cindy Gruntmeir<strong>Times</strong>-<strong>Free</strong> <strong>Press</strong> Staff Writer<strong>Kingfisher</strong> Public Schools reportedo dropouts for any of the last fouruarters, according to a report reiewedat the school board meetingonday night.The board also voted to rehire allrincipals for the 2013-14 school yearnd approved additional responsiilitiesfor the administrators.The principals include: SammyJackson, high school principal, transportationdirector <strong>and</strong> curriculumdirector; Stuart Purintun, high schoolassistant principal, child nutritiondirector <strong>and</strong> school safety <strong>and</strong> complianceofficer; Keith Campbell,middle school principal <strong>and</strong> districtprofessional development coordinator;Kathy Kadavy, Heritage Elementaryprincipal <strong>and</strong> district test coordinator,<strong>and</strong> Melissa Slezickey,Gilmour Elementary principal <strong>and</strong>district common core transitionleader.The board also reviewed the AnnualStudent College RemediationReport, which showed that out of 55students who took the ACT in 2009-2010, none required remediation inscience, five in English, 10 in math,<strong>and</strong> two in reading.This report runs two years behind.The board voted to authorize Supt.Jason Sternberger to solicit bids forthe new 422-square-foot softball concessionst<strong>and</strong> as soon as plans arefinalized.“Plans provide for a nice functionalbuilding. This is not part of a bondissue. We will put together a bid packetfor competitive sealed bids. The boardwill then have an opportunity to accept,reject, or make changes,”Sternberger said.[See School Page 8A]KHS selected for state Reward School grantBy Cindy Gruntmeir<strong>Times</strong>-<strong>Free</strong> <strong>Press</strong> Staff Writer<strong>Kingfisher</strong> High School has beenamed one of six recipients of theeward School grant chosen by OklaomaBoard of Education.Based on the A-F grading system,KHS was chosen as one of 200 rewardschools. Those reward schools werethen given an opportunity to applyfor grants.“Sheila Redwine deserves creditfor writing the grant,” PrincipalSammy Jackson said. “Sixteen schoolsapplied <strong>and</strong> six schools received thegrant.
