NOTICE OF RACE <strong>and</strong>SAILING INSTRUCTIONS2 st Annual <strong>Wayzata</strong> <strong>Yacht</strong> <strong>Club</strong>Family Fun Regatta <strong>and</strong> PicnicFor The Silver Spoon AwardJune 16, 20121. RULESThe racing will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sailing</strong>, the Class Rules <strong>of</strong>the J/24, J/22, Sonar, Ensign, Capri 25, S2 7.9, MORC, PHRF, <strong>and</strong> any other classes thatmay be added except as any <strong>of</strong> these are altered by the <strong>Sailing</strong> <strong>Instructions</strong> <strong>of</strong> the WYC,<strong>and</strong> the Special <strong>Sailing</strong> Instruction for this regatta to be available at registration.2. CLASSESAll Boats will <strong>Race</strong> in PHRF except any other WYC class that has 5 boats entered, plusany other classes that may be added at the Skippers meeting. The number <strong>of</strong> starts willdepend on the number <strong>of</strong> entreaties3. ENTRYAny keel boat is eligible to enter by completing the entry form <strong>and</strong> paying the fee. Non-WYC boats are invited.4. STRUCTURE4.1. The Regatta will be three races, no throw-outs.4.2. In addition to st<strong>and</strong>ard finishing position scoring, a boat may improve its score byregistering <strong>and</strong> having children on board.4.3. The number <strong>of</strong> Children Points will be subtracted from each races’ finishing position toproduce a corrected finishing position. Lowest corrected finishing position wins <strong>and</strong> tiesare expected.4.4. A special category <strong>of</strong> Youth Skippered Boats will be awarded a trophy for the bestPHRF-based results over the three-race series.5. STARTING ORDERThe starting order will be announced at the Skippers meeting as amended by vocal hailfrom the Committee Boat or by a posting on the WYC Official <strong>Notice</strong> Board7. ENTRY FEEThe entry fee will be $20.00 per adult8. CHILDREN POINTS8.1. Children Points will be awarded for each child on board for the racing.


Child’s AgeChildren Points Subtracted (per <strong>Race</strong>)Less than 6-years old 36 to 12 years old 213 to 16 years old 18.2. The child’s age shall be the age on the day after the event. If the child has a birthdayturning 6, 13, or 17 on the day <strong>of</strong> the event the age will be counted as 5, 12, or 16,respectively, thus providing the category giving the higher number <strong>of</strong> Hosting Points.9. YOUTH SKIPPERED BOATS9.1. A boat may choose to be a Youth Skippered Boat as part <strong>of</strong> the registration process bydesignating a person 16 years old or less (by the definition <strong>of</strong> 9.2) as the helmsperson.9.2. A Youth Skippered Boat shall be steered by a registered Youth Skipper for the entireseries <strong>of</strong> races. Steering responsibilities may be split between two or three YouthSkippers but each must steer an entire race.9.3. ONLY Youth may steer a Youth Skippered Boat during racing, except that an adult mayintervene briefly for the few seconds necessary to avoid imminent contact with anotherboat. This is similar to the Women’s <strong>Race</strong>s rule WYC NOR 2.3.9.4. For the purpose <strong>of</strong> scoring the Youth Skippered Boats, the children Points to besubtracted per race shall be double the table in 8.1 for the skipper.10. COURSE10.1. The course will be windward-leeward with a center starting line designed to last about30-40 minutes.10.2. The number <strong>of</strong> times around will be posted on the RC course board.11. SCORING11.1. There will be an overall finishing position for the entire registered fleet to be determinedusing PHRF time-on-time calculation. If there are 5 non PHRF boats they will be scoredwithin their fleet <strong>and</strong> within the PHRF fleet.11.2. Children Points for each boat will be subtracted from a boat’s finishing position to givepoints for each race.11.3. Finishing places will be determined based upon the net points after subtracting ChildrenPoints from the finishing position. Ties will be permitted.11.4. A maximum <strong>of</strong> three races are scheduled, <strong>of</strong> which one shall be completed for thepurposes <strong>of</strong> awarding prizes.12. PRIZES12.1. In PHRF trophies will be awarded according to WYC SI 20.112.2. Youth Skipper trophies will be awarded to boats so-registered based on best PHRFcalculated series score placing from first to fifth.12.3. Additional Ways to Win in a special category. Special categories are:12.3.1. Youngest skipper12.3.2. Lowest average age <strong>of</strong> invited children12.3.3. Most generations on the boat13. THE PICNIC13.1. The picnic will include hot dogs, pop, ice cream, <strong>and</strong> other kid-friendly foods.13.2. There will be balloons, face painting, gutter boat races, <strong>and</strong> other entertainment.
