Genuine attachments in generalQualityThe hard and abrasive materials that constitute normalworking conditions have forced us to use high-gradesteels. Since conditions are not only severe, but alsovarying, mere strength is not enough – flexibility is alsorequired. Through extensive testing, we have developed alarge number of buckets for materials of differentdensities that permit optimum utilization of the machine’stipping load.Manufactured in EuropeMaximum strength and flexibility require perfect interplaybetween attachment and wheel loader. This interplaymust begin during the development of the differentcomponents. We have matched the buckets optimally toour loaders. The geometry of the loader unit and the shape of thebucket are intimately related. In order to calculate theoptimum bucket angle, plate thickness, bottom length, bucket width, etc., it is necessary to know the angles andother characteristics of the lift-arm system. The product sign plate affixed to all genuine attachmentsis the buyer’s guarantee the attachment has been testedand approved with respect to quality and function. The sign plate not only marks the attachment as genuine, but it also serves as a certificate of identification.76Manufactured in North America1 2 3 4 5Volvo buckets are composed of through hardened andtempered, abrasion resistant steels in most parts.See declaration below:(Composition may depend on type and size of bucket.)Piece parts:Brinell Hardness:1. Bucket fill factorGeneralTP Linkage27°21The bucket fill factor in rock isbetween 95 and 100%.21RockISO 7546 or SAE J742 heaped volume. The heap angle is 1:2 or 27°.The fill factor in aggregate(crushed material) is 100%.AggregateISO/SAE calculates with a perfect horizontal position ofthe bucket. When mounted on wheel loaders, however, the bucket tends to lean forward in carry position. Theangle also varies between competitors. The fill factor in sand and gravelwill be about 105%.TP LinkageSand and gravel27° 27°The linkage on a Volvo wheel loader allows the bucket tobe almost horizontal in carry position. When the materialhas a heap angle according to ISO/SAE, the bucket willcarry almost the ISO/SAE rated volume. The fill factor in material like clayand earth is 110% ormore.Z-bar linkageClay and earth27°27°Our competitors mainly use the Z-bar linkage, whichmakes the buckets lean more forward in carry position. Aheap angle of 27° means that the bucket will carry muchless than the ISO/SAE rated volume.6The above illustrations show that Volvo wheel loaderswith TP Linkage achieve a much better bucket fillfactor than the Z-bar linkage in the same material. When choosing a bucket, remember that:1. Volvo wheel loaders with TP Linkage will give alarger heap than the same size competitive wheelloader in the same material.2. Choose the bucket in accordance to the wheelloader’s rated capacity and consider the materialtype, the density of the material and the actualtransported volume.

Bucket selection chartThe choice of bucket is determined by the density ofthe material and the expected bucket fill factor. Theactual bucket volume is often larger than the rated capacity, due to the TP Linkage features: • Open bucket design.• Very good roll back in all positions. • Good bucketfill performance. The below example and table are intendedfor standard boom.Example: Sand and gravel. Fill factor ~ 105 %. Attachment bracketGeneralDifferent materials require different types of handling –not necessarily different machines. Volvo wheel loadersare continuously being developed to provide highercapacity within different fields of operation. Quick couplingof attachments permits effective utilization of thewheel loader where previously only special-purposemachines, such as fork-lift trucks and mobile cranes, could be used. The idea of interchangeable attachmentsis a unique solution that has made Volvo wheel loaders amarket leader. The attachment bracket with hydraulic locking is ruggedand easy to operate. Precision fit and quality engineeringwith large, rounded hooks make it easy to guide the attachmentonto the bracket. Thanks to the efficient designof the bracket, the difference in operating load betweendirect-mounted (pin-on) and bracket-mounted (hook-on)attachments is minimal. As designers of both the wheelloader and the attachment bracket, we have taken advantageof the unique opportunity to make the bracket anintegral part of the machine.Cast steel attachment bracketThe cast steel attachment bracket has a very open design, therefore providing excellent visibility for theoperator. The bracket fits older generation machines with TP Linkageand, can also pick-up older hook-on attachments.Hydraulic lockingThe attachment can be locked to the attachment bracketfrom the operator's station via an interlocked switch onthe instrument panel.Locking pins are held securely in place by servo pressurefrom the hydraulic system.Attachment bracket in loggingIt makes sense to have several log grapples if you have towork with different timber sizes or you need to opti-mizecapacity in different operations. Our attachment bracketpermits rational utilization of several grapples or switchingto a wood chip bucket. Most of our log grapples are bracket-mounted, whichprovides versatility at the same cost as pin-on mountedgrapples.Bracket-mounted grapples do not project further forwardthan pin-on grapples, and the weight difference is negligible.Bracket-mounted log grapples offer greater flexibilitythan pin-on-mounted grapples.cabL70E/L90ECast steelAttachment bracket Order No 80678a Width mm ft in 1210b Height mm ft in 840c Depth mm ft in 360Weight kg lb 2804'0"2'9"1'2"6208

Selecting a bucketGeneralBucket volume alone is not an adequate measure of thecapacity of the loader. The crucial factor is the ability ofthe wheel loader to fill the bucket every pass. For thatreason, the right size and the right shape of the bucket isvery important. A large bucket can result in lower productivitybecause it is more difficult to fill, while a small bucketthat is easier to fill can increase productivity.A number of factors have to be taken into account, suchas the nature of the material being handled, the conditionof the wheel loader, the operator’s skill, and the transportdistance. If the transport distance is long, this may causespillage. Since all of these factors vary, a wide selectionof buckets is required in order to achieve maximum productivity. The Volvo attachment rangeoffers such a wide selection.A B C D EAStraight edge general purpose bucketWhen fitted with bolt-on edges, it is the best choice forrehandling of loose material and aggregates in short cycle orload and carry operations. (Can also be fitted with bolt-onteeth and segments.)When fitted with welded teeth options and segments, it isthe best choice for loading easily broken material from banks.BFlat floor bucketThe bucket has the same advantages as the present gradingbucket, but is designed with a higher, general-purpose typeprofile for more versatility. The long, flat floor of the bucket makes it the ideal choice forearthmoving applications like landscaping, stripping topsoil, grading, or work in soft underfoot conditions.CStraight edge rock bucketThe best choice for loading easily broken material from banks.Recommended to be fitted with bolt-on edges or with teeth incombination with segments.DSpade nose rock bucketThe best choice for breaking out hard and stony material andshot rock. Recommended to be fitted with 1 1/2 leg typeadapters, points of AM type and segments. For gravel, fineshot rock and ore, it can be fitted with bolt-on edges insteadof teeth.EGrading bucketThis bucket has a long flat bottom. It is intended for earthmovingwork such as topsoil stripping, small-scale dozing, landscaping and leveling of fill. An edge is provided on theback side for grading when the machine is reversed.9

Wear partsBolt-on edge– For pre-drilled (PRD) straight edge and spade nosebuckets.– Provides base edge protection for longer service life.– Bolt-on cutting edges are reversible.– Maintains smooth bucket floor.Volvo Tooth SystemThe new Volvo Tooth System is designed for all types ofapplications, from handling easily broken bank materialsto breaking out hard and rocky materials.– Volvo Tooth System features different adapters andteeth to suit all applications.Segments between points– Provide longer base edge life of the bucket, up tofive times longer than edges without protectionbetween points.– Provide smooth clean floor.– Increase the adapter life by sharing bottom wear.– Protects the bucket base edge from scalloping.Note.Segments are recommended to be used incombination with 1 1/2 leg type adapters, but NEVER with flush mounted adapters.10

AdaptersFlush mounted adapterFlush mounted weld-on adapters are typically used inapplications where a clean bucket floor needs to bemaintained and the material is not extremely abrasive. The number of adapters is not restricted. This type ofadapter is most commonly used with general purposeteeth and is not to be used in combination with segments.Volvo Tooth SystemLA10FC25 (L70E)LA15FC30 (L90E)Note:Fits on all straight edge and spade nosebuckets.Should NOT be combined with segments.1 1/2 top leg adapter11/2 top leg adapters are weld-on adapters, which arewelded on both sides of the cutting edge for betterretention and protection. These adapters are generallycombined with segments and use abrasive resistantteeth.Volvo Tooth SystemLA10TL25 (L70E)LA10TL30 (L90E)Note:Fits on all straight edge and spade nosebuckets.Should NORMALLY be combined with segments.Bolt-on adapterBolt-on adapters have a 2-leg strap design and are usedon straight edge buckets. They provide good cuttingedge protection and are fairly quick and easy to replace. They are normally combined with segments to maintain aclean floor and prevent the cutting edge from scalloping.Volvo Tooth SystemLA10BN25 (L70E)LA15BN30 (L90E)Note:Fits on all straight edge predrilled buckets.Should NORMALLY be combined with segments.12

PointsGeneral purposeThe general purpose tooth is good for breaking out loose bank material such as sand or gravel. When combined with flush mounted adapters, these teeth provide a smooth and clean bucket floor.Self-sharpening design maintains penetration characteristics and improves useful service life.Volvo Tooth System10GPL (L70E)15GPL (L90E)Abrasive materialThe abrasive material tooth is used when extra penetration is required. A moderate undercut helpsto protect the bucket cutting edge while the self-sharpening design improves penetration and extendsits useful life.Volvo Tooth System10AML (L70E)15AML (L90E)13

Log grapplesLog handlingCenturies of timber handling in Sweden have given usthe experience and knowlege to design superior loggrapples. This experience, together with our own developmentwork, has produced a wide range of grapples.Versatility is a must, since the demands of the work varywidely. They may include handling different lengths, transporting logs over uneven ground, gripping and holdingone log, whole stems, etc. These are the points wetake into consideration when designing our complete loggrapple range, which permits all types of timber to behandled under the most diverse conditions.Torque Parallel Linkage has advantages that no othersystem can boast. Generous reach and lifting heightpermit the work to be done quickly and safely. If the grapple has to come in from above for final stackingof timber or when unloading a truck, the machinemust have sufficient breakout and back-tilting torque. If the machine is not strong enough to break out the loadfrom the top, the tines have to be forced between thelogs, increasing the risk of damage to the logs and thevehicle.Rated operating loads for log grapples are calculatedfor a wheel loader fitted with approved counterweightsfor timber handling. The rated operating load capacity specified will beinfluenced if optional equipment is fitted to the attachmentor the loader.Log grapple specifications on the following pagesare calculated for machines equipped with loggingcounterweight and tires:L70E600/65R25L90E600/65R2552

Log grapplesSelecting a log grappleOne of the fundamental principles in choosing a loggrapple for handling round wood is that the longer thetimber is, the smaller the grip area and the wider thegrapple must be. The log grapples are designed differentlydepending on how the machine works. Size isnormally expressed in m 2 /ft 2 . The length of the timberthen determines how much can be carried.Log grapples always require a 3 rd hydraulicfunction.A B CAThe unloading grapple has short, rounded tines, making iteasier to fill the grapple when unloading a vehicle. Long, straight tines could damage both the timber and the vehicle ifused for his purpose.CThe general purpose grapple is an allround grapple forhandling and sorting tree length stems or for gripping singlestems. It has longer tines than the sorting grapple.BThe sorting grapple has relatively long and straight tines thatcan slide along the ground so the grapple can be easily filledwell when loading from stacks and sorting bunkers. Thisgrapple can also be used for unloading.Heel/kickoutHydraulic heel/kickout is available for unloading andsorting grapples. The heel is used, for example, for holdinga single log in a large grapple. The kickout is usedto make higher stacks, since the grapples do not have tobe tilted to empty; instead, the log is pushed out, makingit possible to reach about half a meter higher.Supplied as an assembly kit. Assembly not included inthe price.Note: Requires 4 th hydraulic function.Type of applicationFor grappleOrder No.Weight kg lbMD min mm ft inFor grappleOrder No.Weight kg lbMD min mm ft in8015380966235190––––L70E5180'7''HK OUTL90E80834/8083580836260 570170 0'7''80831/8083280833330 730220 0'9''MD53

Fork attachmentsFork attachments for varying needsDue to their special features, flexibility, manoeuverabilityand unique lift-arm system, Volvo wheel loaders are usedin many different types of applications. The attachmentbracket permits the machine to be utilized effectivelywhere previously only special purpose machines such asfork-lift trucks and mobile cranes could operate. Thestability of Volvo wheel loaders and the reach and parallellift-arm action of the loader unit make them particularlysuitable for work with fork attachments. In material handling yards, warehouses and harbors, maximum use is made of the available space. Here theVolvo wheel loader's lift-arm system and efficient attachmentsare a necessity. Their high lift height and longreach permit work with high stacks. They can also loadwide vehicles from one side, permitting short work cycles.Fork qualityFork frames and pallet forks must be able to withstandthe full lifting capacity of the machine. The fork tines aredesigned according to ISO 2330, and they are made ofhigh grade, hardened and tempered steel, which meetthese demands with excess margin. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to furnish data andinformation on attachments together with the loaders. We carry out inspections and classifications accordingto current standards.Fork tine wear (Acc. to ISO 5057)The fork tine shall be thoroughly checked for wear, special attention being paid to the vicinity of the heel.If the thickness of the tine is reduced to 90% of theoriginal thickness, or to the minimum thickness specifiedby the fork tine or equipment manufacturer, the fork tineshall be withdrawn from service. All Volvo pallet fork tines are marked with:1 Max. load per tine in kg2 Spacing for max. load in mm3 Material thickness in mm58

Fork attachmentsApproval and legal provisionsThe rated operating load capacity is determinedaccording to the European Standard EN 474–3.For countries outside the European Common Market, other safety requirements might apply, so the usershould always check local regulations. The determined operating load for Volvo wheel loaders, with respect to attachment load center distance, isspecified in the table below.NOTE: Always operate with load in lowered position.Transport speed shall be adapted to ground conditions.Load shall be lifted with minimum incline.Stacking should be performed with fork frame or forkshank vertical. The rated operation load capacity given in the tablewill be influenced if optional equipment is fitted to theattachment.Rated operating load capacity at load center distance of:L70E Pallet fork tines, straight. Material handling armGeneralHigh capacity is needed for work with material handlingarms due to the heavy stresses on the arm, machine andhydraulics. Different types of material handling arms aremade for the different Volvo Wheel Loaders, optimallysuited to each loader. Powerful hydraulics and a lift-armsystem with ample breakout torque, even in the topposition, enables the load to be maneuvered with perfectcontrol in all situations. When it comes to work with material handling arms andsecure control over the load, Volvo wheel loaders are ina class of their own. Few competitors can even comeclose to the loads that Volvo wheel loaders are approvedto lift.Safety requirementsPeople are often present in the working area when amaterial handling arm is being used. Authorities therefore, impose very strict requirements on wheel loadersequipped with material handling arms.Max. rollbackpositionMaterial handling arm specifications on the followingpages are calculated for machines with tires:L70E – 20.5 R25 L2L90E – 20.5 R25 L2Max.reachpositionMaterial handling arm, 3-sectionThe material handling arm is used on construction sitesfor pipelaying etc. It has two telescopic sections withbuilt-in mechanical stops to prevent overextension.L70EMax. rolloutpositionL90EAttachments codeOrder Not Length, fully retracted mm ft inu Arm height mm ft inx Arm width mm ft inArm weight kg lbAllowable loads*A Op. load at full turn + max. reach, min. length kg lbB Op. load at full turn + max. reach, middle length kg lbC Op. load at full turn + max. reach, max length kg lbD Reach at max. lift + max. rollback, max. length mm ft inE Reach at max. lift + max. rollback, middle length mm ft inF Reach at max. lift + max. rollback, min. length mm ft inG Reach at max. reach, min. length mm ft inH Reach at max. reach, middle length mm ft inI Reach at max. reach, max. length mm ft inJ Reach at min. lift + max. rollout, min. length mm ft inK Reach at min. lift + max. rollout, middle length mm ft inL Reach at min. lift + max. rollout, max. length mm ft inM Height at min. lift + max. rollout, min. length mm ft inN Height at min. lift + max. rollout, middle length mm ft inO Height at min. lift + max. rollout, max. length mm ft inP Height at tipping pos., all lengths mm ft inQ Height at max. lift + max. rollback, min. length mm ft inR Height at max. lift + max. rollback, middle length mm ft inS Height at max. lift + max. rollback, max. length mm ft in* According to EN 474-3 tipping load utilization is 50%MHA H MECH920072060 6'9"850 2'9"1170 3'10"380 84021501710140027102100154033104350548012601740226021703090410015205290616071204741377130878'11"6'11"5'1"10'10"14'3"18'0"4'2"5'9"7'5"7'1"10'2"13'5"5'0"17'4"20'3"23'4"MHA H MECH920082060 6'9''850 2'9''1170 3'10''500 110026002000160025701980139032704410554013901940250020303020400015205350632072805730441035308'5''6'6''4'7''10'9''14'5''18'2''4'7''6'5''8'2''6'8''9'11''13'2''5'0''17'7''20'9''23'11''uxt67
