RDS (1): With RDS off, press the RDS SELECTbutton, followed by this button to turn RDS on.The RDS display will turn on. You must have RDSon to use the new RDS functions. The RDS displaywill also turn on if one of the other RDS functionbuttons has been pressed on. If you are tuned to astation broadcasting RDS information, the station’scall letters and Program Type (PTY) will replace thestation’s frequency on the display. After five seconds,the program type will be replaced on the display by thestation’s program type name. The program type andprogram type name may be the same or different.Press BAND to recall the frequency and program typedisplays. If the radio is tuned to a station that is notbroadcasting RDS information, the station’s frequencywill remain on the display. While RDS is on, the radiowill search for a stronger station in the network whena station gets too weak for listening. Press the RDSSELECT button, followed by this button again to turnRDS off. All RDS functions will be turned off.REGION: You can also use the RDS button to accessthe region function. When an RDS station becomesweak, this function searches for a stronger station withinthe same network. A network can span a great distance.One network can have stations spread across a countryor continent. Each network breaks down into regions.With regions, local news items like weather and trafficare available to you. When the region function is on,the radio only searches for stations in the same networkand region. You can only use the region function whenRDS is already on. Press the RDS SELECT button.Then press and hold the RDS button for two seconds.REGION: ON will appear on the display. WhileREGION: ON appears on the display, press the RDSbutton again to turn the region function off. REGION:OFF will appear on the display. The region function canbe turned on again by pressing the RDS button.TA (2): Press the RDS SELECT button, followedby this button to receive traffic announcements.The radio will turn on the TA display. TP will appearon the display if the tuned station broadcasts trafficannouncements. You may also receive trafficannouncements from stations in the network related tothe tuned station. If the current tuned station does notbroadcast traffic announcements, the radio will seek toa station which does. When the radio finds a stationwhich broadcasts traffic announcements, it will stop.If no station is found, NONE FOUND will appear onthe display and the TA icon will turn off. When SEEKor SCAN is pressed with the traffic announcementfunction on, the radio will only stop at stations whichbroadcast traffic announcements.3-15
