Sketches ishere to explain some of <strong>the</strong>design industry's most widelyused terms so you can speak<strong>the</strong> language, too. We'd like tostart with "on <strong>the</strong> boards" thisissue. Simply put, a project thatis on <strong>the</strong> boards is a project that hasn't started constructionyet. We're still tweaking <strong>the</strong> design of your building or officespace if it's still on <strong>the</strong> boards. The term originated whenarchitects worked with slide rules, pencils and t-squares ondrafting boards or desks. The old drafting board has beenreplaced with today's computers and sophisticated designsoftware, but <strong>the</strong> phrase has stuck.Does that help? Hope so.
