(Gabel) Buckley, a 1995 AUgraduate and four-year standout, entersher fifth year as head women’sbasketball coach and instructor ofphysical education. Buckley has begunmolding her team by dipping largelyinto the pool of local and regional talent. At the helm of theSpartan women’s basketball program, Buckley has a careermark of 52-52, three consecutive Northern Illinois-IowaConference championships, one NCAA National Tournamentselection (2001-02), and two NIIC Coach of the Year awards(2000-01, 2002-03).Buckley still holds school records for most career fieldgoals, game rebounds, season rebounds, and careerrebounds. She co-captained the historic 1993-94 women’scagers. That team set a school record for wins (22), won asecond consecutive NIIC title, and became AU’s first women’scage team to qualify for NCAA Division III playoffs. TheSpartans advanced to the second round, defeating Wartburg(IA) at <strong>Aurora</strong>.Buckley earned her BS in biology and BA in physicaleducation – athletic training from <strong>Aurora</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1995.She earned a master’s degree in health, physical education,and recreation from Illinois State <strong>University</strong> in 1997.Buckley is married to Jason Buckley, former <strong>Aurora</strong><strong>University</strong> assistant men’s basketball coach and player, andresides in Montgomery, IL.Meet the AssistantCoachesDARLENE GUYETTAssistant Coach(Fifth Season)Darlene Guyett returns for her fifthseason on the AU coaching staff. Amongother duties, Guyett specializes inperimeter player development. A 1992graduate of Judson College, she playedbasketball for the Eagles from 1988-1990and was a student assistant for the 1990-91 season. Guyett also received her master’s degree from<strong>Aurora</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1998. She brings a vast amount ofcoaching experience to the program. Guyett has worked withthe AAU team, Fox Valley Tigers, and served as sophomorehead coach and varsity assistant coach at Bartlett HighSchool. Guyett currently teaches physical education atEastview Middle School in Bartlett, IL. She lives in St. Charleswith her husband Tom and her black lab, Ebby.AU Women’s <strong>Basketball</strong>1
