2011 <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong> Regular SeasonBritish OpenNOTESLouis Oosthuizen’s win was the ninth by aninternational player in the last 12 events on the<strong>PGA</strong> <strong>TOUR</strong>. His win was one of 16 in 2010 by playersin their 20s, compared to seven in 2009. Hejoined Ernie Els (2) and Tim Clark as winners on<strong>TOUR</strong> in 2010 who hail from South Africa. He alsobecame the 10th first-time winner on <strong>TOUR</strong> duringthe 2010 season. He was the sixth South Africanto win a major, joining Ernie Els (2002 British),Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, BobbyLocke (1949, 1950, 1952, 1957 British) and GaryPlayer (1959, 1968, 1974 British).Only six players in British Open history havewon by more than seven strokes. They include:13 strokes, Tom Morris, Sr., 1862; 12 strokes,Tom Morris, Jr., 1870; 11 strokes, Tom Morris,Jr., 1869; 8 strokes, J.H. Taylor, 1900, 1913; 8,James Braid, 1908; 8, Tiger Woods, 2000.Rory McIlroy recorded a 9-under 63 in the firstround to equal the lowest score in major championshiphistory. He went on to tie for third, equalinghis best finish in a major.
