2011 <strong>Volunteer</strong> Student Scholarship Winners<br />

This year we were again able to award ten $1,000 scholarships to young adult volunteers who participated in the<br />

<strong>Volunteer</strong> Student Scholarship Process. The scholarship process is competitive. Awardees are selected by a<br />

committee of educators using a weighted criteria system that includes: references (both school and personal),<br />

academic performance, volunteer hours of service and a comprehensive essay.<br />

Chelsea Ravasani-Asi – Chelsea graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.63 GPA. She has<br />

provided 379 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the Gift Shop. She has been accepted<br />

at University of Nevada, where she will study nursing.<br />

Emmel Marini – Emmel graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.19 GPA. She provided 317<br />

hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center at the Welcome Center. She has been accepted at the<br />

University of Michigan, Dearborn, where she will study pre-pharmacy.<br />

Hanie Basma – Hanie graduated from Dearborn High School in Dearborn with a 3.95 GPA. She provided 311<br />

hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the OR Waiting Room and Welcome Center. She has<br />

been accepted at Wayne State University where she will study pharmacy.<br />

Lindsey Ravasani-Asi – Lindsey graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.51 GPA. She<br />

provided 308 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center at the Welcome Center and Gift Shop.<br />

She has been accepted at University of Nevada where she will study nursing.<br />

Jennifer Ferranti – Jennifer graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.897 GPA. She<br />

provided 292 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the Gift Shop. She has been accepted<br />

at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where she will study business.<br />

Mona Kasim Ali – Mona graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.4 GPA. She provided 306<br />

hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the Gift Shop. She has been accepted at Wayne<br />

State University where she will study radiation therapy.<br />

Layan K. Charara – Layan graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn with a 3.91 GPA. She provided 282<br />

hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the Welcome Center. She has been accepted at<br />

Wayne State University where she will study mathematics.<br />

Shannon Kingsbury – Shannon graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn with a 3.375 GPA. She<br />

provided 298 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center in the Gift Shop and OR Waiting Room.<br />

She has been accepted at Henry Ford Community College, where she will study nursing.<br />

Natalie Garner – Natalie graduated from Calvary Christian Academy in Ypsilanti with a 3.83 GPA. She provided<br />

259 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong> <strong>Annapolis</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> in the Gift Shop. She has been accepted at Hannibal-<br />

LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri where she will study English.<br />

Tammy Lakkis – Tammy graduated from Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights. She attends Wayne State<br />

University where she studies Nursing and maintains a 3.47 GPA. She provided 255 hours of service at <strong>Oakwood</strong><br />

<strong>Hospital</strong> & Medical Center at the Welcome Center and in the Emergency Department.<br />
