The symposium will take place at the Studsvik site outsideNyköping, Sweden (see map below).The objective of the workshop is to share current practice, experiences and innovations within themanagement of contaminated metallic radioactive material. Our aim is to bring together operators,regulators, decision makers, scientists, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to exchangeinformation and views and give the possibility to develop and maintain networks in the area ofmetals recycling.The outcome of the symposium will be captured in workshop proceedings published on CD/DVD.The workshop will consist of the following sessions and activities (preliminary):1. International recommendations and national legislationApplication of regulationsRegulator views2. Experience in minimising the generation of waste in the form of radioactive or potentiallyradioactive metalsActivities to minimise the waste amounts3. Characterisation and categorisation of metals to be recycled4. Decontamination of metals for clearance5. Melting of metals for clearance, reuse or volume reduction6. Best practice in management of metals for clearance and recycling7. Sustainability and public acceptancePoster sessionPossibility to visit the Studsvik site facilities (waste treatment, reactor decommissioning andmaterials technology laboratories).1

Abstracts,written in English, are to be submitted to Anders Appelgren (anders.appelgren@studsvik.se).Deadline for abstracts is Friday 18 th October 2013. Authors of accepted papers and posters will benotified no later than Friday 29 th November 2013. Fees and practicalitiesThe preliminary fee for the symposium is SEK 6 900 (VAT not included). The fee covers the entiresymposium including lunch, dinner reception and refreshments, daily bus transfer to/from Nyköpingand workshop proceedings. Attendees with an accepted paper or poster (main author) will get a 15% reduction of the fee.Accommodation is not included in the symposium fee. The workshop participants book their ownhotel and provide their own hotel costs. There will be three pre-booked hotel options with a first-tocomebooking policy.
