2. Have committed to mentor a child or youth through a bonafide mentoringorganization for a minimum <strong>of</strong> one school year. (Most programs are aligned <strong>with</strong> thechild’s normal school year, however, there may be some that are less or more.Department management may make exceptions to the one school year commitmentbased on the mentor program that is selected.)F. In addition, an employee is not eligible to receive “mentoring leave” if:1. he or she is assigned to a “post” position in the Departments <strong>of</strong> Corrections orYouth Authority; or2. he or she works in a level <strong>of</strong> care position in the Departments <strong>of</strong> DevelopmentalServices, Mental Health, Education and Veteran’s Affairs.G. Any appeals and/or disputes regarding this section shall be handled in accordance <strong>with</strong>the grievance procedure specified in Article 14 <strong>of</strong> this Contract.10.<strong>12</strong> Release Time for <strong>State</strong> Personnel Board HearingsUpon two working days' advance notice, the <strong>State</strong> shall provide reasonable time <strong>of</strong>f <strong>with</strong>outloss <strong>of</strong> compensation for a reasonable number <strong>of</strong> employees to attend hearings conductedby the <strong>California</strong> <strong>State</strong> Personnel Board during the employee's normal work hours providedthat the employee is either (1) a party to the hearing proceedings, e.g., an appellant, or (2)is specifically affected by the results <strong>of</strong> the hearing and has been scheduled to appear ortestify by the <strong>State</strong> Personnel Board. The <strong>State</strong> shall attempt to accommodate a shiftchange request from an employee involved in (1) or (2) above who is scheduled to work aswing or graveyard shift on the day preceding or following an SPB hearing.10.13 Release Time for Commercial Driver's License ExaminationA. Upon ten (10) work days advance notice to the department head or designee, thedepartment shall provide reasonable time <strong>of</strong>f <strong>with</strong>out loss <strong>of</strong> compensation for an incumbentpermanent employee to take the Class A and/or Class B commercial driver's licenseexamination, provided:1. The employee is required to have the designated commercial driver's license andendorsement(s);2. the examination is scheduled during the employee's scheduled work hours;3. the examination does not interfere <strong>with</strong> operational needs <strong>of</strong> the department; and4. the employee has a valid current medical certification, acceptable to DMV.If medical certification provided by a department designated contractor physician or clinic isrejected by DMV on the date scheduled for examination that requires an employee toschedule an additional medical examination date, the employee shall be grantedreasonable release time for the subsequent date, in accordance <strong>with</strong> the requirementsspecified above.B. Upon ten (10) work days notice, the department will allow the employee to use a <strong>State</strong>vehicle or equipment appropriate for the license examination. It is understood by theparties, that use <strong>of</strong> the equipment or vehicle may be delayed for operational reasons.67BU <strong>12</strong>(99-01)
