CARDELL® MAX-12HD User’s Manualdog is in a sitting position, place the front paw on the operator’s knee and takemeasurements from the metacarpus. Sites for cuff placement are themetacarpus, metatarsus and anterior tibial. In anesthetized patients, mostsurgeries are done on the posterior part of the body so the metacarpal area ofthe forelimb is most convenient. In situations where this is not possible, thecuff should be wrapped around the metatarsus just proximal to the tarsal pad oraround the hind leg just distal to the hock. The tail site should not be used forcuff placement during anesthesia. It is not necessary to center the cuff overthe artery because of the fully encircling bladder design. If the hair over theartery site is too thick or matted for good contact, it should be clipped.NOTE: Use metacarpus or metatarsus.NOTE: To achieve the most accurate readings, it is important to keep the cuffon a horizontal plane with the heart.Large animalsA large animal such as a horse should be in a stock, standing still, or lyingdown. For horses and cows, the cuff can be wrapped around the base of thetail using the coccygeal artery on the ventral surface.WARNING: When monitoring over an extended period of time, or at frequentintervals, periodically observe the patient’s limb to make sure that thecirculation is not impaired for a prolonged period of time.Cuff size selectionsM1.0 5-15-0977
