CARDELL® <strong>MAX</strong>-<strong>12</strong><strong>HD</strong> User’s Manualheart base to apex lead arrangement will be best if the negative lead is placedat the base (point of right shoulder at thoracic inlet) and the positive lead atthe apex (low on caudal left thorax). Standard right forelimb lead isnegative and standard left hind leg is positive in lead two; so if these leads areproperly placed and the machine is set to Lead II, an upright complex shouldbe the result.POSITIONING CONSCIOUS PATIENTSStandard position for recording diagnostic ECG in dogs is right lateralrecumbency. Diagnostic tracings can be obtained in cats in either rightlateral or sternal position. Limbs should be perpendicular to the spine andparallel with their opposite member. In awake cats and dogs, it is best tohave the patient held by a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant. Onelead should be applied first to determine comfort level and adjustment madeas needed. Then the other clamps can be placed in position. It is importantthat the patient be kept still.
