Cardell® MAX-12HD User’s ManualSECTION 7ECG MONITORING7.1 General InformationThe Cardell MAX-12HD Monitor records heart rate with electrode clipsattached to the patient. Electrodes detect signals caused by changes ofelectrical conduction in the heart during the cardiac cycle. Heart rate iscomputed on a beat-to-beat basis using the R-R interval of the QRS complex. It is necessary to make sufficient preparations before monitoring in order toget accurate readings.Patient CableThe patient cables consist of the main cable (connected to the patient monitor)and the leadwires (connected to the patient).WARNING: At ECG receptacle, you can seelabel, which indicatesthat the signal input part is highly insulated and defibrillator-proof. Inaddition, it is guaranteed that the monitor will not be damaged duringdefibrillation and HF surgical operation.CAUTION: Use only electrodes, ECG cable and leadwires recommended byMidmark.7.2 Preparations7.2.1 Skin Preparation and Lead ContactSites where leads are attached to the body must be properly prepared tooptimize contact. Dogs and cats have enough electrolyte material on theirskin and hair so that merely moistening lead sites with 70% isopropyl alcoholis appropriate. This will usually be sufficient for ECG recording/monitoringfor a short time, 30 to 60 minutes, depending upon the relative humidity. For monitoring during longer periods, an electrode paste should be used.
