When completed, thefirst phase of the system will have fourlines, totalling 70 kilometres (43.5 miles)in length, which will connect the ninemunicipalities in the Porto metropolitanarea.Bombardier Transportation, under contractto Metro do Porto SA, is supplying72 Bombardier Flexity* Outlook trams –a proven technology based on vehiclesalready in service in Strasbourg, France,and in Milan, Italy. These 100 per centlow-floor, articulated trams will provide atotal capacity of 20,300 passengers perhour per direction over the four-linesystem.When completed, the entire system willfeature 63 at-grade and 11 undergroundstations.
