September 16 was the date of the cut-over of the first large automaticcrossbar exchange supplied by L M Ericsson to Australia, the 6300-line Toovvoomba exchange. Mr R VV C Swartz, M. It is a paper-insulated, lead-covered multipleunit cable, 2040 pairs, 0.51 mm, and 82 mm outside diameter. Thedelivery also includes 100—1400 pair lead-sheathed cable. The photographshows a drum of PCL'T cable 2040 2 0.51 mm for shipmentto Hong Kong. The drum weighs 5000 kg.Mexicans ReceiveSwedish HonoursThe Knight Grand Cross of theOrder of the Northern Star wasawarded to the Mexican Minister ofCommunications, Walter C Buchanan,at a reception at the Swedish Embassyin Mexico City. In presenting theOrder the Swedish ambassador spokeof Mr Buchanan's great contributionsto the development of Mexican telecommunicationsand of the hospitalityalways extended to Swedes in Mexico,in the matter of which Mr Buchananwas a notable example. In his replythe latter expressed his appreciationof the fruitful cooperation betweenMexican and Swedish technicians overa period of decades, especially in theconstruction of the country's telephonenetwork. The ceremony wasattended by representatives of thediplomatic corps and of the Mexicangovernment. Mr Buchanan and theSwedish ambassador Lennart Nylanderare seen in the photograph below.Mr Edward Hidalgo, for sevenyears chairman of the board ofCompania Comercial Ericsson, L MEricsson's sales company in Mexico,has been awarded the Order of Vasa.Mr Hidalgo, who is a very able commerciallawyer, has for many yearswatched over the interests of Swedishfirms in Mexico and has on severaloccasions rendered valuable assistanceto the Swedish Embassy.
