Attention is stillplaced on computational fluency, along with more emphasis on problem-solving skills.Mastery of key topics such as fractions, decimals, percent, data analysis, and geometryand measurement are rein<strong>for</strong>ced in preparation <strong>for</strong> the more abstract concepts and skillsof pre-algebra.COURSE OBJECTIVES• To develop fluency and accuracy in mathematical computation• To develop a repertoire of appropriate problem-solving strategies• To use correct mathematical representation and language to analyze “real-world”situations and facilitate the communication of mathematical concepts andstrategies• To develop spatial relationships involving two- and three-dimensional figures,and apply appropriate techniques and tools <strong>for</strong> measuring the figures• To select, interpret, and apply accurate statistical methods to compare and analyzedataSCOPE AND SEQUENCE• Set Theory• Problem Solving• Data and Statistics• Decimal System: Understanding and Operating• Number Theory• Fraction Concepts• Fraction Operations• Geometry and Patterns• Ratio, Proportion, and PercentTECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION• Students will use calculators when appropriate, with specific instruction.


HOMEWORK POLICIES• Homework is assigned most nights, including on weekends, to practice andrein<strong>for</strong>ce skills learned in class.• Homework will be checked <strong>for</strong> completion, then discussed in class to make surestudents understand it, so students are expected to make an ef<strong>for</strong>t on eachassignment.• Students are expected to utilize their daily planner to record nightly and long termassignments.• Parents will be notified if a pattern of incomplete homework or class workdevelops.• In case of absence, assignments are available on the website and teachers areavailable <strong>for</strong> clarification.• Students and parents may access homework assignments through the Internet atwww.btfiloh.org .GRADING CRITERIA AND POLICIESTrimester grades will be determined in accordance with the following approximate gradingcomponents:• Tests and quizzes, 60%• Classwork, 30%• Homework, 10%CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONSStudents received classroom expectations on the first day of school. Please review andrein<strong>for</strong>ce these expectations on a regular basis.
