2 Foodan d Nutrition11Activity : My Personal diet !BACKGROUND :Learn the four basic food groups:milk products: milk, cheese, yogurtand ice creammeat/eggs: red meat, poultry, fish andeggsgrains: bread, cereals, rice, pasta and so forth ·fruits/vegetables: may be consumed assolids or juices.One should know what to eat beforeexercise. Eating meat does not improveathletic performance. The best food itemsto be consumed before prolonged exerciseare complex carbohydrates. These include bread, pastaodles), potatoes and rice. These should beconsumed 3 to 4 hours before the athleticevent so that they have passed out of thestomach.Water consumption continues to beimportant upto the time of participationand every 20 to 30 minutes during the activity.METHODOLOGY:1. Let the children bring pictures relatedto the above four basic food groups.2. Working in groups, let the groups make acollage based on the components of anutritive diet.( n oCONCEPT :A proper diet helps aperson to be healthy.OBJECTIVE :To make oneself aware ofthe nutritive value of fooditems.MATERIALSREQUIRED:Chart papers forthe groups,pictures relatedto the four basic foodgroups.MODE :Group/individualTIME REQUIRED :2 periods
