374 Sri Caitanya-caritamrta [Madhya-lila, Ch. 19TRANSLATION" 'When Devaki and Vasudeva understood that their two sons Krr:-a andBalarama, who had paid obeisances to them, were the Supreme Personality ofGodhead, they became fearful and did not embrace Them.'PURPORTThis verse quoted from Srimad-Bhagavatam (10.44.51) refers to the killing ofKarhsa by Krr:Ja and Balarama. Vasudeva and DevakT saw their son kill the powerfuldemon Karhsa, and after this they were immediately released from theirshackles. Balarama and Krr:Ja then offered respects to DevakT and Vasudeva. Bothfather and mother wanted to embrace their sons, but they understood that Krr:Jaand Balarama were the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and they therefore hesitatedto embrace Them.
