304 Sri Caitanya-caritamrta [Madhya-lila, Ch. 19rupa-gosafiire-ROpa GosvamT; sik?a kara'na-teaches; sakti saficariya-endowinghim with potency.TRANSLATIONDue to the great crowds in Prayaga, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu went to aplace called Dasasvamedha-ghafa. It was there that the lord instructed SriRupa Gosvami and empowered him in the philosophy of devotional service.PURPORTParasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate. The Supreme Lord has multi-potencies, whichthe Lord bestows on His fortunate devotees. The Lord has a special potency bywhich He spreads the Krt:a consciousness movement. This is also explained inCaitanya-caritamrta (Antya 7.11 ). Kr?Qa-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana: "Onecannot spread the holy name of Krt:a without being specifically empowered byLord Krt:Ja." A devotee who receives this power from the Lord must be consideredvery fortunate. The Krt:a consciousness movement is spreading to enlightenpeople about their real position, their original relationship with Krt:Ja. Onerequires Krt:a's special power in order to be able to do this. People forget theirrelationship with Krt:a and work under the spell of maya life after life,transmigrating from one body to another. This is the process of material existence.The Supreme Lord SrT Krt:a personally descends to teach people that their positionin the material world is a mistaken one. The Lord again comes as SrT CaitanyaMahaprabhu to induce people to take to Krt:a consciousness.
