298 Sri Caitanya-caritamrta [Madhya-lila, Ch. 19PURPORTLord Kr?t:Ja has many forms, as stated in Brahma-sarhhita (5.33): advaitamacyutam anadim ananta-rupam. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu asked RaghupatiUpadhyaya which form was the best of Lord Kr?t:Ja's millions of forms, and he immediatelyreplied that the supreme form was the Syamasundara form. In thatform, Kr?t:Ja stands curved in three places and holds His flute. The Syamasundaraform is also described in Brahma-sarhhita (5.38):premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanenasanta/:! sadaiva hrdaye?U vilokayantiyarh syamasundaram acintya-guf)a-svaruparhgovindam adi-puru?arh tam aharh bhajami"I worship the primeval Lord, Govinda, who is always seen by the devotee whoseeyes are anointed with the pulp of love. He is seen in His eternal form of Syamasundarasituated within the heart of the devotee."Those who are filled with ecstatic love for Kr?t:Ja always see the form of Syamasundarawithin their hearts. Raghupati Upadhyaya confirms that the AbsoluteTruth, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has many incarnations-Naraya!)a,Nrsimha, Varaha and others-but Kr?t:Ja is distinguished as the supermost. Accordingto Srimad-Bhagavatam: kr?Qas tu bhagavan svayam. "Kr?t:Ja is the originalPersonality of Godhead." Kr?t:Ja means Syamasundara, who plays His flute inVrndavana. Of all forms, this form is the best of all. Kr?t:Ja lives sometimes inMathura and sometimes in Dvaraka, but Mathura is considered the better place.This is also confirmed by ROpa Gosvami in his Upadesamrta (9): vaikuQthaj janitovara madhu-puri.
