Text 70] The Lord Instructs Srila Riipa Gosvami 281fastidious position is most prominent. At any rate, this was the case five hundredyears ago. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu actually started a revolution against thisbrahminical system by inaugurating the chanting of the Hare Krl)a mantra. By thischanting, one can be delivered regardless of caste, creed, color or social position.Whoever chants the Hare Krl)a maha-mantra is immediately purified due to thetranscendental position of devotional service. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is herehinting to Vallabha Bhattacarya that an exalted brahmaQa who makes sacrificesand follows Vedic principles should not neglect a person who is engaged in devotionalservice by chanting the holy name of the Lord.Actually ROpa Gosvami did not belong to a lower caste. He was from a highlyaristocratic brahmaQa family, but due to his association with the MohammedanNawab, he was considered fallen and excommunicated from brahmaQa society. However, due to his advanced devotional service, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu acceptedhim as a gosvami. Vallabha Bhattacarya knew all this. One who is a devoteeis above caste and creed, yet Vallabha Bhattacarya felt himself prestigious. The present head of the Vallabha Bhattacarya sampradaya of Bombay is namedDikita Maharaja. He is very friendly to our movement, and whenever we meethim, this learned brahmaQa scholar highly praises the activities of the Hare Krl)amovement. He is a life member of our Society, and although he is a learnedscholar in the brahminical caste tradition, he accepts our Society and considers itsmembers bona fide devotees of Lord ViI)U.TEXT 70·B It f ilt1l ' I'e ' ftri!·fl fil' II 'to IIdurihara mukhe nirantara k(Qa-nama suni'bhatta kahe, prabhura kichu irigita-bharigi jani'SYNONYMSdurihara mukhe-in the mouths of both ROpa Gosvami and his brotherVallabha; nirantara -continuously; krQa-nama suni'-hearing the chanting of theholy name of Krl)a; bhatta kahe-Vallabha Bhattacarya said; prabhura-of LordSri Caitanya Mahaprabhu; kichu-some; irigita-indications; bharigi-hints;jani' -understanding.TRANSLATIONHearing the holy name constantly vibrated by the two brothers, VallabhaBhattacarya could understand the hints of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
