the pace of childbearing probably results, in part, because of a decrease in the fecundability of thesewomen by the time they reach marriage durations of 15 years and longer. For women first marrying atage 25 and above, the mean number of children ever born at durations 20-24 years can be considered theircompleted family size since they are unlikely to have significantly more children.
