Introduction :The UGC-Academic Staff College, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological UniversityHyderabad organises Orientation, Refresher, Interaction and Short Term Courses, onthrust areas for in-service teachers and also for newly appointed teaching faculty on aregular basis.The Orientation Course will enable the teachers to:§ understand the significance of education in general and higher education in particular,in the global and Indian contexts;§ understand the linkages between education and economic, social and culturaldevelopment with particular reference to the Indian environment;§ acquire and improve basic skills of teaching at the college/university level to achievethe goals of higher education;§ understand the organization and management of a college/university and to perceivethe role of teachers in the total system;§ utilize opportunities for development of personality, initiative and creativity.The UGC has decided not to grant equivalence to the Courses/ Programmes other thanthe UGC sponsored Refresher / Orientation programmes conducted by the UGC-ASCs,for the purpose of Career Advancement.During the current academic year 2012-2013, a four week 28 th Orientation Course isproposed to be organised during 14-05-2012 to 09-06-2012, in the campus of JNTUniversity Hyderabad. The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 40, and theselection will be based on the priority of ‘first -come-first-serve’.Eligibility :§ Lecturers working in the Universities and Colleges, who are included in the list ofColleges under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even though they may not yet be fitunder 12-B of the UGC Act, are eligible to participate in the Orientation and RefresherCourses. The teachers of colleges, which do not yet come within the purview ofSection 2(f), but have been affiliated to a University for atleast 5 years, are eligible toparticipate in the Course.§ Teachers have to be sponsored by the concerned Principal of the College / Head of theInstitution for considering the participation in the Course.§ It is mandatory that sponsored Teachers, if selected, should participate in the Course.§ The Part-Time/Adhoc/temporary/contract teachers, who have been teaching for atleast two academic sessions in an Institution which has been affiliated to a Universityfor at least two years may be allowed to participate in the Orientation Programmes/Refresher Course to enhance their skills.
