Chapter 2: Using VCS with Synopsys ModelsSimulator Configuration GuideSetting Environment VariablesFirst, set the basic environment variables. If you are not using one of the model types,skip that step. In some cases the procedures that follow in this chapter include steps forsetting additional environment variables.1. Set the LMC_HOME environment variable to point to the location of yourSmartModel, FlexModel, or Designware Memory Model installation tree, asfollows:% setenv LMC_HOME path_to_models_installation2. Set the LM_LICENSE_FILE or SNPSLMD_LICENSE_FILE environment variableto point to the product authorization file, as shown in the following example:% setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE path_to_product_authorization_file% setenv SNPSLMD_LICENSE_FILE path_to_product_authorization_fileYou can put license keys for multiple products (for example, SmartModels andhardware models) into the same authorization file. If you need to keep separateauthorization files for different products, use a colon-separated list to specify thesearch path in your variable setting.CautionDo not include la_dmon-based authorizations in the same file with snpslmdbasedauthorizations. If you have authorizations that use la_dmon, keepthem in a separate license file that uses a different license server (lmgrd)process than the one you use for snpslmd-based authorizations.3. If you are using the hardware modeler, set the LM_DIR and LM_LIB environmentvariables, as shown in the following examples:% setenv LM_DIR hardware_model_install_path/sms/lm_dir% setenv LM_LIB hardware_model_install_path/sms/models: \hardware_model_install_path/sms/mapsIf you put your models in a directory other than the default of /sms/models, modifythe above variable setting accordingly.4. Set the VCS_SWIFT_NOTES variable to 1, as shown in the following example:% setenv VCS_SWIFT_NOTES 1VCS_SWIFT_NOTES enables the printf Processor Control Language (PCL)command. In addition, if this variable is not set, then no information, note, warning,or error messages from a SWIFT model will appear in the simulation transcriptwindow.Supporting 32-Bit Libraries on 64-Bit PlatformsIf you want to run 32-bit Synopsys models or tools on a 64-bit HP-UX or Solarisplatform, set the LMC_USE_32BIT environment variable to any value before invokingthe tool, as shown in the following example:% setenv LMC_USE_32BIT 1The LMC_USE_32BIT environmental variable is a “set/no-set” variable. That is, youcan set it to any value (even zero) to turn on 32-bit support on a 64-bit platform. If youdo not set it at all, the default condition is 32-bit models on 32-bit platforms, or 64-bitmodels on 64-bit platforms. You only set this environmental variable (to any value)when you are on a 64-bit platform using 32-bit models and simulators.October 6, 2003 Synopsys, Inc. 41
