Simulator Configuration GuideChapter 7: Using QuickSim II with Synopsys ModelsUsing SmartModel Windows with QuickSim IISmartModel Windows is a SmartModel Library feature that can be used for moreefficient system-level verification and debugging by allowing you to view windowelements during simulation runs for microprocessor, PLD, memory, and peripheralmodels.Window elements that can be viewed include registers, pointers, states, or latches (forexample), depending on the part being modeled. This section provides informationabout how to interact with SmartModel Windows using QuickSim II. SmartModelWindows can be used to:●●●●●●Review window element values and set breakpointsSingle-step through simulationsChange window element values before proceeding with a simulationTrace instruction executionRename instancesCombine register elementsMost SmartModels contain predefined window elements that correspond to themanufacturer's specifications. To determine if a specific model is equipped withSmartModel Windows, check the model's online datasheet.How SmartModel Windows WorksSmartModel Windows couples the models and the simulator so that model elements canbe used almost as if they were nets in the design. Normal QuickSim II commands areused with SmartModel Windows, except that an instance designator must be added to aQuickSim II command to address a model's window elements (even at the top level).The general format for using QuickSim II commands with SmartModel Windows is:command model_instance/element_nameUse any of the following commands to enable window elements with the simulator:ADD LISTS model_instance/element_nameADD MONITORS model_instance/element_nameADD TRACES model_instance/element_nameWindow elements must be activated with one of the preceding commands in order forSmartModel Windows to begin displaying data. Each model's online datasheet lists itspredefined window elements, which are available during simulation.
