Sukha = pleasant feeling or happiness associated with experiencingthe paÊibhŒga nimitta.5. EkaggatŒ = one pointedness of mind on the paÊibhŒga nimitta.<strong>The</strong>n after the medita<strong>to</strong>r can discern these five mental fac<strong>to</strong>rshe then attempts <strong>to</strong> discern each of the other mental fac<strong>to</strong>rs presentin the first jhŒna javana citta. He begins by discerning either consciousness(vi––aöa), contact (phassa) , or feeling (vedanŒ) first.<strong>Which</strong>ever of these three is prominent he discerns it and thencontinues <strong>to</strong> discern it in every first jhŒna javana citta. After thathe discerns each of the remaining types of mentality adding onetype at a time, so that he is able <strong>to</strong> see 1 types of mentality in eachfirst jhŒna javana citta, then 2 types, then 3 types, etc., untileventually he can see all 34 types of mentality present in each firstjhŒna javana citta.When the medita<strong>to</strong>r can discern all the 34 types of mentalitypresent in the first jhŒna javana cittas he then tries <strong>to</strong> discern all thetypes of mentality present in each and every consciousness tha<strong>to</strong>ccur in a mind door thought process (mano dvŒra v´thi).A mind door thought process of the first jhŒna consists of asequence of six types of functional consciousness.Firstly there occurs mind door adverting consciousness(manodvŒrŒvajjana) in which he can discern 12 types of mentality.<strong>The</strong>n after that there occurs one preliminary consciousness(parikamma) in which he can discern 34 types of mentality.
