THE RM MAGNETICALLY COUPLED CENTRIFUGAL PUMP WITHOUT SHAFT SEALHIGH OPERATIONAL SAFETY, MINIMUM MAINTENANCETHE PROBLEM:It is a fact that every rotating sealing joint is wearing outwith time. And if a seal breaks down in the end, fluidleaks out. Such leakage is especially dangerous withhighly aggressive fluids and may result in heavy costs.When delivering non-lubricating fluids or fluids tending tocrystallize in particular, the use of mechanical shaft sealsrequires very complex arrangements like sealing chamberswith double-acting mechanical seals. These arrangementsare cost-intensive and require a lot of maintenance.What is more, the necessary maintenance intervals considerablyreduce the availability of the pump.THE SOLUTION:With SONDERMANN pumps of the RM type, permanentmagnets convey the motor drive to the pump impellerwithout any contact. Thus, there is no shaft exit requiringan appropriate sealing joint. The wet part and the drypart of the pump are hermetically separated from eachother by the rear casing so that leakages through wornsealings are definitely ruled out. The pump does not requireany maintenance since optimum sealing is ensuredby no need of sealing joints at all.THE UTILIZATION:SONDERMANN RM pumps are always used when perfectleakproofness and freedom from maintenance are indispensable.They are especially used to deliver aggressiveacids and bases, degreasing baths, chemicals, highlycorrosive liquids or fluids tending to cristallize.Electroplating shops, printed-circuit board manufacturers,purification plants and the photographic industry profitfrom SONDERMANN RM pumps. OPERATING PRINCIPLECONSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN OF RM-TYPE PUMPSThe rear casing hermetically seals the pump chamberfrom the driving motor. The driving magnet rotatingoutside the rear casing transmits the torque of themotor to the inner magnet and thus to the impeller.The impeller is supported by sleeve bearings and acentering shaft made of high-purity oxide ceramic(99.7 %). Thus the bearing is extremely resistant towear. The use of other bearing materials is possible.To cool and lubricate the sleeve bearings, part of thefluid delivered passes the impeller and enters the gapbetween the inner magnet und the rear casing. ELECTRONIC PROTECTIONFOR MAGNETICALLY COUPLED CENTRIFUGAL PUMPSElectronic monitoring of motor currents protects the pump fromdry running, overheating and overload.If the above mentioned malfunctions cannot be completely ruledout with your installation, you should use an electronic protectorto switch off the pump before it is damaged.Such protector will prevent the pump from being damaged andthus avoids down time and resulting costs. Once the cause ofthe malfunction is eliminated, the pump immediately is ready foroperation again.The protectors electronically evaluate the operating conditionsof the pump and include a contactor to switch off the pump ifnecessary. They are easy to install to the power supply unit ofthe pump. As it is not necessary to build them into pipe runs,the protectors are ideal also to retrofit existing installations.Three different types of the electronic pump protector are available.TYPE 1FOR PROTECTION FROM DRY-RUNNINGA cosÊ controller monitors the phase shift between current and voltage in the motor running.As soon as there is no more liquid in the pump, the cosÊ controller responds and switches off the pumpmotor. A red lamp at the switchgear box lights up to indicate the fault. Please note that type 1 is a meredry-running protector.
