What is the Child Watch Visitation Program?

Has become a familyoriented home serving children 13 to 18years of age.DESCRIPTIONOF PROGRAM:Hogares provides a home for 225 kids amonth. It provides residential, counseling,and treatment programs in 10 treatmentcenters, which include day treatment, fostercare, and individual living.The population has changed over the years toinclude more substance abuse and ganginvolvement. Many come from single parenthouseholds. With the increase in troubledyouth, many have been in several otherprograms before coming to Hogares.There is a broad base of referral, and theprogram changes to meet the needs. There isa new program for sexual abuse, and aspecialized program for gangs. There areparent support groups, and a 3 to 4 monthwaiting list.There are 160 full-time staff, andvolunteers involved in an "amigo" programand mentoring relationships. The strengthand success of the program rests in anability to assess what families need andplace youth in appropriate programs.The program is funded by United Way, State,Federal, city and County in a 4 milliondollar budget which includes a sliding feescale.61
